Patent number: 7396081Abstract: A chair control mechanism has a rotatable shaft with a radially extending member abutting an actuating finger of a gas control cylinder. A slider may push a second radially extending member of the rotatable shaft in order to rotate the shaft. The slider has a tab extending into the mouth of the head of a further shaft which is rotated by a user operated handle. Thus, when the user operates the handle, the head of the further shaft causes the slider to slide.Type: GrantFiled: May 16, 2003Date of Patent: July 8, 2008Assignee: Leggett & Platt Canada Co.Inventors: Gerard J. Matern, David Lloyd Hobb, Kerry J. Brodrecht

Patent number: 7380884Abstract: The present invention provides a switching apparatus having a design intended to reduce wear on its key part. In an embodiment of the invention, a rotatable member is rotatably fixed on a pivot. A slidable bearing member has a first surface for engaging the rotatable member in a non-sliding manner, and an opposite second surface for slidingly engaging an abutment. Any significant wear on the switching apparatus is more likely to occur between the sliding member and the abutment, rather than between the rotatable member and the sliding member. In an embodiment, one of the rotatable member and the slidable bearing member includes a protuberance, and the other of the rotatable member and the slidable bearing member includes a corresponding indentation for engagement with the protuberance. The join formed between the protuberance and indentation provides a substantially non-sliding engagement between the rotatable member and the slidable bearing member.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 2003Date of Patent: June 3, 2008Assignee: Leggett & Platt Ltd.Inventors: Gerard J. Matern, Arthur A. Patton

Patent number: 7097254Abstract: The present invention provides a height-adjustment mechanism for an armrest. In an embodiment, a height-adjustment mechanism for an armrest includes an integral one-piece leverage body, and an integral one-piece sleeve. In an embodiment, the integral one-piece sleeve has pivot seats formed on a pair of locking arms depending from a first wall of the sleeve. These parts may be made of low cost materials suitable for integrally forming their features in an injection-moulding operation. Various features built into these parts may provide a user with a sense of quality.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 2003Date of Patent: August 29, 2006Assignee: Leggett & Platt Ltd.Inventors: David Lloyd Hobb, Gerard J. Matern, Gerard Helmond, Arthur A. Patton, Cuong Quoc Vo, David Watkins

Patent number: 6896333Abstract: A height-adjustment mechanism may include an integral one-piece leverage body; an integral one-piece sleeve; and a locking member. In an embodiment, the integral one-piece leverage body has a handle, a pair of pivot pins projecting from opposed sides, a tongue projecting rearwardly, and a resilient biasing member projecting forwardly. These parts may be made of low cost materials suitable for integrally forming their features in an injection-moulding operation. Various features built in to these parts may provide a user with a sense of quality.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 2003Date of Patent: May 24, 2005Assignee: Leggett & Platt Ltd.Inventors: Gerard J. Publication number: 20040190977Abstract: A coaxial cable extender having only two parts overcomes the complexity of prior devices while maintaining functionality. The extender includes a sleeve, attached to a conduit of the coaxial cable, having a ratchet toothed rack and a slider received on the sleeve. The slider has an integral arm with ratchet teeth biased against the ratchet toothed rack such that the slider may be ratcheted along the ratchet toothed rack to extend the effective length of the conduit.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 27, 2003Publication date: September 30, 2004Applicant: Leggett & Platt Ltd.Inventor: Gerard J. Patent number: 6692077Abstract: A chair height adjustment mechanism includes a lever positioned to overlay a valve opening member of a height adjusting cylinder. The lever may be depressed by a cam on a control arm when the control arm is rotated. The depressed lever then depresses the valve opening member. Depression of the lever through the rotation of the control arm may give finer control to the depression of the valve opening member than is conventional.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 2003Date of Patent: February 17, 2004Assignee: Leggett & Platt Ltd.Inventors: Kenneth Beggs, Gerard J. Publication number: 20030184144Abstract: A chair control actuator, such as a chair control paddle, is provided with a surface relief. The surface relief depicts a chair in two different positions illustrative of different chair positions which may result from use of said actuator. The surface relief has solid relief areas depicting a first of the two positions and outline relief areas depicting a second of the two positions.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 14, 2002Publication date: October 2, 2003Applicant: Leggett & Platt Ltd.Inventors: Gerard J. Patent number: 6378943Abstract: A chair seat tilt lock mechanism has a detent to latch an actuating lever in a locked and unlocked position. When the lever is moved to a locking position, a spring urges a moveable locking member toward a locking position, however, the moveable locking member only moves to its locking position when the chair is tilted to properly register the moveable locking member with a fixed locking member. When the lever is moved to an unlocking position, another spring urges the moveable locking member to an unlocking position. The moveable locking member may be a slider which slides under a fixed abutment to lock the chair from tilting. Alternatively, the moveable locking member may be a pivoting arm with a series of openings which may receive the forked end of a tongue in a locked position.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 1999Date of Patent: April 30, 2002Assignee: Northfield Metal Products Ltd.Inventors: Ken A.
