  • Patent number: 6200396
Abstract: This invention relates to a eutectic or hypereutectic aluminium-silicon alloy product suitable for thixoforming, comprising (by weight) 10 to 30% silicon and, if applicable, copper (<10%), magnesium (<3%), manganese (<2%), iron (<2%), nickel (<4%), cobalt (<3%) and other elements (<0.5% each and 1% in total), the microstructure of which is composed of primary silicon crystals, equiaxed type aluminium dendrites less than 4 mm in size and a eutectic composed of eutectic silicon grains and eutectic aluminium grains less than 4 mm in size.

  • Patent number: 5032244
Abstract: An apparatus for the anodic treatment of aluminum alloy pistons used in internal combustion engines. The apparatus comprises at least two members applied symmetrically to the lateral cylindrical surface of the piston which are connected to a source of positive direct current. An electrode connected to a source of negative direct current and having at least one aperture therein is positioned adjacent the head portion of the piston which is to be treated. A deflector of electrically insulating material disposed generally parallel to and spaced from the electrode and having a circumference curved toward the electrode is provided with a central passage therethrough which receives the head portion of the piston, with the head portion being disposed opposite the electrode.

  • Patent number: 4750945
Abstract: Castings made from aluminum and its alloys have at least one face including at least one region of wear-resistant zones. These castings are formed by a controlled distribution of zones hardened by local melting effect. The zones, no matter what their length and shape, have a width and depth between 3 and 150 .mu.m and the surface fraction or percentage of the zones for the wear-resistant region is between 5 and 60%.

  • Patent number: 4681665
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process and apparatus for electrochemical treatment in a static mode or in a feed motion mode of the surface of metal products of elongate shape. The process is characterized in that cathodic and anodic zones are produced within the same volume of electrolyte, the zones being separated from each other and being displaced parallel to the product in a cyclic manner. The process is carried out in a cell having a single compartment in which there are at least four electrodes, two of which have voltage applied thereto. The invention is applied more particularly to aluminium, magnesium, titanium and alloys thereof, in order to provide for regular treatment of the entire surface of the product.
