  • Patent number: 6578876
Abstract: An adapter and coupler assembly has two externally threaded adapters, one left-hand threaded and the other right-hand threaded, and an internally threaded coupler, one end left-hand threaded, the other end right-hand threaded. The coupler threadedly engages the two adapters simultaneously, tightening on both by rotating in one direction, providing a fluid-tight seal. Each adapter has the other end barbed for connection to hose. The coupler and the two adapters each have an external annular flange which is perforated to receive seizing wire or wire ties to prevent the components from unthreading. The coupler has a multi-sided barrel at its center, and the adapters have a multi-sided nut portion, to provide purchase by a wrench-type tool. Each component may also have a mark indicating the starting point of the thread, to facilitate engagement of the components. The assembly is especially useful in fluid-carrying systems of boats, recreational vehicles, and campers.
