  • Patent number: 4658481
Abstract: A safety release pin for locking the operating mechanism of a fire extinguisher includes a shank having a longitudinal slot near one end defining parallel side walls, each formed with a vertical groove, which attach a nose portion to the end of the shank. An elongated locking member pivotally mounted to the shank overlying the slot defines a cam surface which coacts with surfaces of the operating mechanism as the pin is inserted to pivot the locking member into the slot to facilitate insertion, the locking member springs back to its locking position. When the pin is withdrawn, a detent surface of the locking member coacts with surfaces of the operating mechanism to deflect the nose portion downwardly tearing the side walls apart along the grooves, severing the nose portion from the shank.

  • Patent number: 4619328
Abstract: A discharge valve assembly for a fire extinguisher container includes a housing defining a passageway providing communication between the container outlet and a nozzle. An elongated tubular valve stem is axially movable in the passageway between open and closed conditions with respect to a valve seat in the passageway, the stem projecting from the passageway for engagement by an actuating lever. An elongated indicating rod, shorter than the valve stem, is coaxially movable therein between extended and retracted conditions. A bias spring and the pressure in the container holds the valve stem closed, and the pressure in the container holds the indicating rod extended. A bias spring urges the indicating rod toward a retracted position. To check the pressure the indicating rod is manually depressed, the extent to which it returns to its extended condition being indicative of the magnitude of the pressure in the container.

  • Patent number: 4410881
Abstract: The horn comprises a magnetically permeable housing with an electromagnet mounted therein and a diaphragm attached thereto. The electromagnet core may have an inclined bearing surface at one end thereof. A striker is disposed between the electromagnet bearing surface and the diaphragm for movement away from and strikingly against the diaphragm, the striker being coupled to the housing by a flexible carrier member which is so mounted that when the striker is moving away from the diaphragm there is imparted to the carrier member a predetermined curvature to increase the potential energy thereof. In one form of the invention a control member, either integral with or attached to the housing, has a curved surface engageable with the carrier member to impart the predetermined curvature thereto. The control member may also have a stepped configuration which simulates a curved surface. In still another form of the invention the carrier member rests loosely upon a sloping control surface of the housing.

  • Patent number: 4328486
Abstract: A horn includes a magnetically permeable housing having a diaphragm attached thereto and an electromagnet also attached to the housing. A carrier member loosely and unattachedly rests on a shelf in the housing and is attached to a striker member of magnetically permeable material. The striker member is located between the diaphragm and the electromagnet and is moved away from and against the diaphragm to generate noise.

  • Patent number: 3970986
Abstract: A housing having a central bore therein receives a rotor rotatably mounted therein and secured thereto having an enlarged round base portion. A thrust plate is mounted for limited axial reciprocation within a recessed opening in the housing concentric with the rotor and adjacent the rotor base. The rotor base and thrust plate are formed with cooperating detents and notches to provide indexing means for rotationally positioning the rotor. The internal recess of the housing and the exterior of the thrust plate are configured with matching shapes to prevent rotational movement therebetween, rotation of the rotor moving the detents from one pair of diametrically opposed notches to the next adjacent pair of said notches, while the thrust plate reciprocates against the action of a biasing means. The lower end of the rotor carries a contactor mounted for fixed rotation therewith and having a pair of downward extending arms.
