  • Patent number: 7108624
Abstract: Belt for use in a continuous variable transmission, comprising an endless carrier for taking op tensile forces, and a plurality of transverse elements moveable in the longitudinal direction along the carrier. The elements are provided with at least one saddle surface for contacting the carrier. The saddle surface defines an ultimate mutual position of the carrier and the elements relative to each other within the belt in radial direction, with a tapered lower element part including a rocking edge and an upper part extending radially beyond the carrier, when the carrier and surface are in mutual contact. Each axial end of the surface is adjoined by a limb extending predominantly in radial outward direction, thereby defining a recess open to the radial outer end of the element allowing free insertion of the carrier in the recess.

  • Patent number: 6821224
Abstract: A drive belt (1) includes at least one continuous band (22) engaged with a number of (plate-like) transverse elements (30) such that the elements (30) may slide freely along a longitudinal direction (L) of the continuous band (22), whereby the elements (30) are provided with a taper (31) allowing mutual rotation of adjacent transverse elements (30) about a transversely oriented axis (32) thereby defining a minimum radius of curvature (RMIN) at which the drive belt (1) may be bent in its longitudinal direction (L) and whereby the continuous band (22) is provided with an internal residual stress distribution conforming to a longitudinally bent posture having a pre-bending radius (RPB), characterized in that, the pre-bending radius (RPB) of the at least one continuous band (22) is considerably larger than twice the minimum radius of curvature (RMIN).

  • Patent number: 6464606
Abstract: A drive belt for a transmission realizing a continuously adjustable transmission ratio comprising at least one continuous band having a part, which, when in a longitudinally stretched state, shows a curvature in a direction transverse to the longitudinal direction of the drive belt (1), said curvature being of a generally arc-like shape having a stretched band radius RSB, associated with a number of cross elements, each having a contact face for interacting with a principal face of the continuous band and provided with a transverse convex curvature of a generally arc-like shape having a face radius RS. The inverse value of the face radius RS minus the inverse value (1/RSB) of the stretched band radius RSB is notionally larger than −5 m−1, preferably larger than −3.5 m−1.

  • Publication number: 20010004616
Abstract: The invention relates to a drive belt (1) for a transmission realizing a continuously adjustable transmission ratio comprising at least one continuous band (20) having a part, which, when in a longitudinally stretched state (cross section A-A), shows a curvature in a direction transverse to the longitudinal direction of the drive belt (1), said curvature being of a generally arc-like shape having a stretched band radius RSB, associated with a number of cross elements (30), each having a contact face (31) for interacting with a principle face (24) of the continuous band (20) and provided with a transverse convex curvature of a generally arc-like shape having a face radius RS. The inverse value (1/RS) of the face radius RS minus the inverse value (1/RSB) of the stretched band radius RSB is notionally larger than -5 [m−1], preferably larger than −3.5 [m−1].

  • Patent number: 6217471
Abstract: A drive belt for a continuous variable transmission includes at least one endless metal band, preferably provided in a set of nested bands, at least partly being surrounded by transverse elements for at least clamping the belt in between the sheaves of a set of pulleys. At least one band is shaped such, as seen in cross section, that the arithmetical relation between thicknesses TA, TB and TC at three points PA, PB, PC on a contact face, given by the formula (1−(TA+TB)/2TC) represents a value greater than 0.001 and smaller than 0.100, wherein points PA, PB and PC are indicative of a substantially transverse line relative to the longitudinal direction of the band, wherein point PC is located between PA and PB, wherein points PA and PB are located near the edge of the band.
