  • Patent number: 4735565
Abstract: A pin-barrel extrusion device having a barrel temperature control means between the outer and inner hollow cylinders of the barrel and an apparatus for adjusting the radial depth of penetration of the pins into the inner hollow cylinder is disclosed in which problems due to different rates of thermal expansion of the cylinders in the axial direction are obviated or at least minimized. This is achieved by locating the pins in guide sleeves, which sleeves are detachably mounted in a bore formed in the inner cylinder and pass through aligned bores in the outer cylinder. The outer cylinder bores have a diameter larger than that of the sleeves so that an annular gap is defined between the bores and the cylinder. This provides room for movement of the sleeve if the inner cylinder on which it is mounted expands at a different rate to that of the outer cylinder.

  • Patent number: 4728278
Abstract: A method for monitoring deviations in the dimensions of profile strips during production is disclosed, as is an apparatus suitable for carrying out the method. The profile strip is formed from one or more rubber or thermoplastics material mixtures which are fed from one or more extrusion devices through nozzles into a common nozzle in an extrusion head. Pressure and temperature measuring means measure the extrusion pressure and temperature of each mixture. The profile strip thus produced then passes over weighing device which measures its weight per unit length. The measured value is transmitted to a regulating or control device and compared with a desired weight per unit length.

  • Patent number: 4719071
Abstract: A method particularly suitable of monitoring the production of elongate profiles which are formed from one or more mixtures of rubber or thermoplastic material in an extrusion head which is fed by one or more extrusion devices is disclosed as in an apparatus which is particularly suitable for carrying out such a method. During production, the strip passes through a cooling path or station in which longitudinal shrinkage thereof occurs. The desired shrinkge is known and the actual shrinkage is monitored by suitable means. These means are operatively connected to a regulating or control device. When leaving the head, the profile passes over a weighing device which determines the weight per unit length thereof. The weighing device is also operatively connected to the regulating or control device. If a deviation from the desired shrinkage in the zone or station is ascertained, the regulating device sets a new, corrected, desired weight per unit length value to be achieved at the weighing device.

  • Patent number: 4653994
Abstract: An extrusion head is provided for extruding flat profiles for producing tread strip portions of vehicle tires from mixtures of rubber or plastics materials, which permits one of the constituents such as the tread strip mixture to be changed without adversely affecting the other constituent parts of the mixture, such as the lateral rubber strip mixtures and the base rubber layer. This is achieved by suitably deflecting the flow channels for the lateral rubber layers in a front template. The flow channel for the lateral strips enters the template below the flow channel for the tread strip but discharges alongside the lateral edges of the tread strip. The head comprises a fixed central portion and pivotable upper and lower portions, the flow channels for the constituents of the mixture being defined by channels formed in insert members located between the head portions.

  • Patent number: 4643660
Abstract: A screw extrusion press having a barrel temperature control means is disclosed, which press permits the inner liner or cylinder of the barrel or a portion thereof to be replaced rapidly without necessitating simultaneous replacement of the temperature control means. This object is achieved by providing intermediate rings between individual extruder barrel portions, the rings each defining annular passages and guide means for the temperature control medium.

  • Patent number: 4629327
Abstract: A pin-barrel extruder suitable for processing rubber and thermoplastic plastics materials having pin adjustment means is disclosed. The extruder comprises a barrel having a screw rotating therein. Pins project radially inwardly into the hollow interior of the barrel. These pins are distributed both uniformly around the periphery of the barrel and in axial alignment with one another. Axially aligned pins are made adjustable, with regard to their depth of penetration into the barrel by being connected to a bar or rail. This bar or rail is disposed radially outwardly of the barrel but extends parallel to the axis thereof. Actuating means are provided for displacing the bar or rail, and hence the pins, relative to the barrel.

  • Patent number: 4585602
Abstract: A method and a device are disclosed for feeding a number of strips of material of one constituent from different batches thereof, into each extruder of a single- or multiple-extruder system in order to ensure that the extruder product from each extruder is more consistently uniform. To achieve this, such a system is fed from one end from pallets deposited on conveyor belts so that a plurality of strips of material from different batches, but of the same mixture, are fed into each appropriate extruder hopper. The empty pallets are removed from the pallet system by a conveyor belt passing along the charging end.

  • Patent number: 3988097
Abstract: Ejecting means, in a slot die head to extrude plastic material in a strip, whereby material left in the slot die head after extrusion has ceased can be removed, comprising a piston mounted with its crown flush with the inner wall of a distributing passage in the slot die head, so that, after the slot die head has been opened by separately upper and lower parts thereof, the piston can be moved hydraulically to project into the distributing passage to lift the residual material away from the wall of the distributing passage containing the piston to facilitate grasping of the material by an operator and stripping from the slot die head.
