  • Patent number: 6604057
Abstract: An evaluation method for an inductive displacement sensor first temperature-compensates a measured sensor value, and then calibrates same. The temperature compensation is carried out iteratively, utilizing two temperature dependent functions. The first function is based on the temprature-dependency of the measured sensor value, and the second function is based on the dependency of the temperature coefficient of the sensor model used. For a clutch sensor application, a calibration line is defined by two calibration points, which represent a completely engaged state and a just disengaged state, respectively. Continuous measurement of the displacement of an engaged clutch indicates the wear status of the clutch, so that a warning can be transmitted to the driver when the clutch lining has reached a predetermined thickness.

  • Patent number: 5994895
Abstract: An inductive displacement sensor comprises a magnetically conductive housing, a coil located within the conductive housing, and a solenoid plunger movable within the coil. A ring-shaped air gap is formed between the solenoid plunger and the conductive housing. A short-circuit ring surrounds the solenoid plunger and is located on the outside of the conductive housing and in front of the ring-shaped air gap. An electronic unit is connected to the coil that measures the displacement-dependent inductance of the coil.

  • Patent number: 5867022
Abstract: An angle-of-rotation sensor comprises a coil, a magnetically conductive element within the coil which is rotatable around an axis of rotation, the axis of rotation of the magnetically conductive element being at least partially within the coil, and a single winding for the coil. The angle-of-rotation of the magnetically conductive element is determined by measuring the change in self-inductance in the coil when the magnetically conductive element is caused to rotate.
