  • Patent number: 7175796
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing ceramic brake discs, comprising the following steps: a) producing a BMC compound (2) with a matrix consisting of phenol resin and with carbon reinforcement fibres, the length of the carbon fibres being between 6 mm and 50 mm; b) poducing a green compact of the ceramic brake discs from the BMC compound (2) in a transfer moulding or injection compression moulding process, c) pyrolysing the green compact in order to produce a porous moulded body; and d) melt-infiltrating the porous moulded body with a melt, preferably a silicon melt, in order to produce a moulded body with reaction-bonded fibers.

  • Patent number: 7163653
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing ceramic brake disks from a green body consisting of a sheet molding compound (SMC) having reinforcing fibers, and the ensuing pyrolysis and melt infiltration. The aim of the invention is to create a single-element green body comprising very complex inner cavities after pyrolysis. In order to achieve this, the method comprises the following steps: the green body (1) is produced from a sandwich consisting of SMC (2), a thermoplastic insert (4), and SMC (2) in one working step in a tool (5a, 5b), subjected to pressure and temperature; and the insert (4) fills the green body (1) over its entire surface and comprises openings (6) which are arranged in such a way that the upper and lower SMC layers (2) are interconnected, at least in parts.

  • Patent number: 6838148
Abstract: The invention relates to an SMC (sheet moulding compound) for producing fibre-reinforced duroplastic components. Said SMC consists of a resin matrix (2) which is fibre-reinforced with unidirectional fibres (UD-fibres) (7) that are arranged in axial alignment and preferably with additional cut fibres (random fibres) (4) that are arranged in a non-aligned manner in the resin matrix. According to the invention, in order to achieve extremely high rigidity in a multi-axial direction with a low surface weight, several layers of SMC are arranged in the component, each layer containing UD-fibres (7) with a different alignment from one another.

  • Patent number: 5292570
Abstract: A semifinished product formed from fiber reinforced thermoplastic material, with the semifinished product including a solid covering of fibers and thermoplastic material, which resolidifies, after melting, and a felt or wadding-like core of a fiber-polymer mixture. The core may be formed from a compressed material and the semifinished product may have either a cylindrical or oval shape. The solid covering has a thickness of less than 20% of the radius of the semifinished product, with the thickness preferably being a maximum of 10 millimeters.

  • Patent number: 5252054
Abstract: An apparatus for providing batches of a mouldable, fibre-reinforced thermoplastic material matched to a moulding to be produced and accompanied by heating, wherein a free-flowing initial product of fibres and thermoplastic material-containing binders are heated as a strand and a matched batch is separated from the strand and supplied to batch further processing. The apparatus includes a melting device with a melting channel, through which the material to be processed is pressed as a continuous strand, as well as a cooling station.

  • Patent number: 5139723
Abstract: A process for producing batches of a mouldable, fibre-reinforced thermoplastic material matched to a moulding to be produced and accompanied by heating, wherein quantities of an initial product of fibres and thermoplastic material-containing binder are intermittently moved into a preheating station, and intermittently moved therefrom through a melting channel as a strand and a matched batch is separated from the strand and supplied for batch further processing.

  • Patent number: 4886701
Abstract: A tangled fibrous material from cut glass fibre bundles, with the cut glass fiber bundler being fed into a compressed air flow and a glass fibre-laden air being deflected into a turbulent eddy flow of varying direction, so that a tangled fibrous material of wadding-like consistency is formed. Through the simultaneous addition of dry polymer-based binder powder, it is possible to obtain a tangled fibrous material as a starting product for a production of glass fibre-reinforced plastic moundings, which can be compressed to a felt. This can be packed as an intermediate or further processed in a heated belt press to glass fibre-reinforced plastic plates.
