Patent number: 10843707Abstract: The assistance system of a motor vehicle includes a driver-assistance system for monitoring a driving situation of the motor vehicle and a control device for determining at least one course of option resulting from the monitored driving situation, by taking into consideration data that can be retrieved by the control device independently of a user input to the assistance system. The assistance system also includes an output device for outputting a query to provide to a driver a function of the assistance system corresponding to a course of action. The assistance system also includes a detection device for detecting a response reaction of the driver. The control device provides the function of the assistance system depending on the detected response to reduce the cognitive load of the driver.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 2017Date of Patent: November 24, 2020Assignee: Audi AGInventor: Gerd Gruchalski

Patent number: 9412374Abstract: In a method for speech recognition in a motor vehicle, speech inputs from a user are received and at least one of them is supplied to a vehicle-internal onboard speech recognition system without raising a query with the user. The speech recognition system generates a first recognition result, which, however, is not necessarily always correct and thus it has often been necessary up to now to raise a query with the user or allow the user to make corrections. The method provides reliable speech recognition that distracts the user in the motor vehicle as little as possible from the traffic. To this end, a processing unit supplies all or part of the speech input also to a vehicle-external offboard speech recognition system, which transmits a second recognition result to the processing unit. Depending on the first and the second recognition results, the speech text is then determined.Type: GrantFiled: May 18, 2013Date of Patent: August 9, 2016Assignees: AUDI AG, VOLKSWAGEN AGInventors: Gerd Gruchalski, Tanya Kancheva

Patent number: 8751145Abstract: A voice recognition method that is used for finding a street uses a database including information about a plurality of streets. The streets are characterized by respective street names and street types. A user provides a voice input for the street that the user tries to find. The voice input includes a street name and a street type. The street type is recognized by processing the voice input. Streets having the recognized street type are then selected from the database and a street name of at least one of the streets selected from the database is recognized by processing the voice input.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 2005Date of Patent: June 10, 2014Assignees: Volkswagen of America, Inc., Audi AGInventors: Ramon Eduardo Prieto, Carsten Bergmann, William B. Lathrop, M. Kashif Imam, Gerd Gruchalski, Markus Möhrle

Patent number: 6774764Abstract: A securing system, in particular for motor vehicles, comprises at least one multi-functional sensor, which is simultaneously provided both as a radar unit and as a transmitter/receiver unit for communicating with an external device such as a user identifying transponder. The device may have multiple transmitters and/or receivers spatially situated to determine whether the external device is inside or outside the vehicle and may emit a HF-modulated signal that is frequency shifted and re-emitted by the external device and received by the multi-function sensor, wherein a security function may be performed based on both identifying information in the re-emitted HF-modulated signal and the distance to the transponder determined from the time duration between emission of the HF-modulated signal and reception of the re-emitted HF-modulated signal.Type: GrantFiled: February 23, 2001Date of Patent: August 10, 2004Assignee: Delphi Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Sharmila Ghosh, Gerd Gruchalski
