Patent number: 4994333Abstract: In an acid-type primary cell with a zinc anode containing non-toxic or only little harmful substances, the usual toxic components of the zinc alloy such as mercury and cadmium are replaced by at least one of the elements indium and bismuth, and by at least one of the elements magnesium and lithium. These nonpoisonous substitutes inhibit hydrogen on the zinc and provide a degree of mechanical tensile strength with more conventional zinc anodes. Additionally, a slight amount of lead is alloyed with the zinc anode to maintain ductility during the rolling process and as a supplemental protection against corrosion.Type: GrantFiled: November 15, 1989Date of Patent: February 19, 1991Assignee: Varta Batterie AktiengesellschaftInventors: Horst-Udo Jose, Gerd Jung

Patent number: 4650680Abstract: In view of operating temperatures above 100.degree. C., a silver oxide/zinc cylindrical cell is provided with a housing cup which is enclosed by a sealing element formed of PTFE, and which incorporates a double-layer separator whose inner layer is formed of a semi-permeable ion exchange membrane and whose outer layer is formed of a flexible ceramic material. The element is protected against extreme overpressure, in excess of 65 bar, by a rupture line in the form of an indentation in the bottom of the cup.Type: GrantFiled: October 3, 1984Date of Patent: March 17, 1987Assignee: Varta Batterie A.G.Inventors: Rolf Brenner, Horst-Udo Jose, Gerd Jung, Robert Koder

Patent number: 4632887Abstract: A primary element of the round-cell type is effectively protected from desiccation by a sealing washer made of a flexible foamed plastic (preferably foamed PVC), placed above the depolarization electrode and clamped between the positive cap and the zinc can of the cell. An additional adhesive beading is provided on the carbon rod of the cell to prevent the passage of electrolyte through the central opening in the sealing washer which receives the carbon rod.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 1985Date of Patent: December 30, 1986Assignee: Varta Batterie AktiengesellschaftInventor: Gerd Jung

Patent number: 4492105Abstract: A tightening device for the gripping jaws of a plate stretcher comprises one push rod for each pair of gripping jaws sliding in guides in the gripping head in the stretching plane, and having hinged thereto two link rods which are also hinged to the gripping jaws, the gripping jaw moving synchronously rearwards for the closing operation and forwards for the opening operation, in two guides disposed in V-formation to each other. The link rods are coupled to the gripping jaws in a disengageable manner to avoid damage to the link rods and tightening device if tearing of the plate takes place during the stretching operation, or on account of any difference in the gripping of the plate by the upper and lower gripping jaw causing generation of very large but different forces on the two link rods. The link rods are in the form of angle levers each having a long and short arm pivotally connected to the hydraulically mobile push rod.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 1982Date of Patent: January 8, 1985Assignee: SMS Schloemann-Siemag AktiengesellschaftInventors: Heinrich Kutz, Gunter Ostlinning, Gerd Jung

Patent number: 4459838Abstract: A gripping head (2) of a sheet stretcher has a centering device (4) for centering a sheet (1) to be stretched in the middle of the gripping head (2) before the sheet is gripped and stretched. The centering device comprises two centering arms (5) which move with their edges towards the longitudinal sides of the sheet and are synchronously displaced in opposite directions and at right angles to the axis of stretching. In order to facilitate optimum gripping of the sheet automatically, guide rods (9) having engaging members (10) sliding thereon are provided on the centering arms (5) and extend parallel to the axis of stretching. The ends of the engaging members (10) have stops (14), against which the front end of the sheet (1) bears when fully inserted. A distance-measuring device (18), is provided on the centering arm (5) and has a cable drum (22) and a potentiometer (20) on the same shaft (21). The end of the cable is secured to the engaging member ( 10).Type: GrantFiled: March 18, 1982Date of Patent: July 17, 1984Assignee: SMS Schloemann-Siemag AktiengesellschaftInventors: Heinrich Kutz, Gerd Jung
