  • Patent number: 6435218
Abstract: A steel pipe, includes an outer corrosive-preventive protective sheath, which has a surface layer of plastic material, and a crack stopper zone extending over a section of the pipe. The crack stopper zone includes a bandage which is wrapped around the pipe section and made of high-strength fiber material imbedded in a compacted matrix of thermoplastic and thermosetting plastic. The bandage is comprised of a plurality of wound layers joined to one another via the matrix by welding or gluing.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 13, 2001
Date of Patent: August 20, 2002
    Assignee: Mannesmann AG
Inventors: Hans-Georg Hillenbrand, Ingo Von Hagen, Gerd Junker, Gerhard Knauf, Johannes Arndt

  • Patent number: 6161425
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for checking a hollow body section, wherein the section, after being filled with a fluid, is subjected to a bursting test to demonstrate its brittle fracture resistance. After the open ends of the section are closed, the required bursting pressure is applied by the dynamic movement toward each other of two elements that reach in a sealing manner through the open ends. The dynamic movement of the two elements is achieved by accelerating a weight toward one of the two elements such that the weight impacts the one of the two elements at an impact velocity, causing the dynamic movement.
