Abstract: An elongated bar shaped housing contains an optical sensing apparatus with at least one light source to create a sensing beam and a deflecting arrangement which moves the sensing beam back and forth between the longitudinal ends of the housing. One of the walls of the housing has an output window extending in the longitudinal direction of the housing for the sensing beam and an input window parallel to the output window for the sensing beam reflected from a workpiece or its support. In the housing behind the input window there is a strip shaped light receiving arrangement with a plurality of optical sensors, as well as an evaluation unit connected to the light receiving arrangement to which the output signals of the light receiving arrangement are sent.

The inventive device comprises a first light source (2) whose optical axis can be brought into a reflection position with the test object and comprises an optical unit for determining the distance between the reflected parallel light beams (11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16). Abstract: A measuring system for recognition of surface features of a product, (3) e.g. flat glass, rapidly moved on a conveyor (2), with a sensor system (1) that is stationary relative to the moving product (3) and is directed towards the reflecting and/or scattering surface, includes a plurality of transmitter-detector pairs (6, 7) extending transversely to the transport direction (10) of the product (3) and vertically offset to the conveyor (2) along a line, wherein each detector output is connected to an apparatus for determining the intensity of the detector signal, so that the intensity signals of all detectors (7) can be fed in parallel to an evaluation unit (5).
