  • Patent number: 6211930
Abstract: Variable viewing angle liquid crystal display screen systems are disclosed. They are useful, e.g. in automatic teller machines where, during parts of a transaction with a user, it is undesirable that information on screen can be read by others. In accordance with the invention, interposed in a conventional display arrangement of reflector (2), backlight (1), diffuser (3), optional brightness enhancer (4, 5) and transmission type screen (6) are a collimator (10) and a variable diffuser (11). If the variable diffuser (11) is set to transparent, the light passing through the transmission type screen (6) is still collimated and accordingly the display on the screen is only effectively visible over a narrow viewing angle. If the diffuser (11) is set to diffuse the collimated light, then the display is visible over a very wide range of angles.

  • Patent number: 6102473
Abstract: The invention concerns a cover (10) for a longitudinal member of a automobile, with a longitudinally extending covering part (16) which is securely attachable with the body (14) of the automobile and in the assembled condition covers the longitudinal member at least from the side exposed to view, of which the end segments (28, 30) with their upper edge (36, 38) engage the front and rear fender of the body with formation of a joint. For simplification of the manufacture and assembly as well as for improvement of the form integration a joint gap covering joint gap shield (42, 44) is provided on the respective end segments (28, 30), which is capable of being pre-assembled via connecting elements (46, 48), wherein the end segments together with the pre-assembled joint gap shield are attachable to the automobile body at associated connecting positions by means of the connecting elements.

  • Patent number: 5777787
Abstract: The apparatus for providing an autostereoscopic view of three dimensional structures includes a display device including several different two-dimensional views of a three-dimensional structure, optical image forming devices arranged in front of the display device and a screen for forming images in an observation plane from light rays issuing from the optical image forming devices so that images of the two-dimensional views appear in respective observation zones in the observation plane. The optical image forming devices (AE) are provided with aperture stops and include a device for overlapping the observation zones (BZ6) to form overlapping zones (UZ6). The aperture stops are provided with edge regions having a continuous transitional decrease of light transmission from complete transmission at their edges to zero transmission at a predetermined distance from their edges.
