Abstract: Diurethanes of the general formula ##STR1## are disclosed, in which R.sub.1 is alkyl, alkenyl or haloalkyl, and R.sub.2 is phenyl or cyclohexyl or substituted phenyl or cyclohexyl. These compounds show exceptional selective herbicidal activity in particular in tomato cultures, and are most effective in post-emergence treatment.

Abstract: A composition containing at least one compound of the formula ##STR1## in which R is alkyl, alkenyl, alkinyl, halogenoalkyl or alkoxyalkyl,R.sub.1 is alkoxyalkyl or dialkoxyalkyl,R.sub.2 is alkyl or alkoxy, andx is oxygen or sulfur andn is 0, 1, 2 or 3.The compounds have a strong herbicidal effect against various weeds together with a broad selectivity in regard to agricultural plants, particularly potatoes, cotton, peanuts, carrots and rice.

Abstract: Diurethanes of the formula ##STR1## selectively damage or destroy weeds in crops of carrots, cotton, peanuts, and rice without damaging the crop plants when R.sub.1 is methyl or ethyl; R.sub.2 is propyl, butyl, isobutyl, or benzyl; R.sub.3 is hydrogen, methyl, ethyl, methoxy, or methylmercapto; and X is oxygen or sulfur.

Abstract: Novel diurethanes of the general formula ##STR1## are described, in which R.sub.1 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl or C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 alkenyl, R.sub.2 is phenyl, methylphenyl, methoxyphenyl, chlorophenyl, dichlorophenyl, cyclohexyl, benzyl or phenylethyl, R.sub.3 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 alkenyl, C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 alkinyl, chloro-C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, chloro-C.sub.2 14 C.sub.4 alkenyl, or chloro-C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 alkinyl and X is oxygen or sulfur. Compositions containing at least one of the compounds of the general formula exhibit exceptional selective herbicidal properties.

Abstract: Carbanilic acid esters of the formula ##STR1## in which R.sub.1 is chloro- or bromoalkyl,R.sub.2 is phenyl, methylphenyl, halogenophenyl, trifluoromethylphenyl or methoxyphenyl,R.sub.3 is alkyl, alkenyl or alkinyl, and in whichX is oxygen or sulfur.The compounds have a high activity against various weeds with good compatibility with many agricultural plants, particularly potatoes.The invention also embraces a process for making the aforementioned compounds as well as herbicidal compositions in which the compounds are the active or one of the active agents.

Abstract: N-methylcarbanilic-[3-(ethoxycarbonylamino)-phenyl]-ester. The compound is a specific cotton herbicide. It is highly active against common weeds without causing harm to the cotton plants at any state of their development.

Abstract: Substituted phenyl thiocarbamates either per se or herbicides contain them and methods for their production are provided herein. Such compounds are available for destroying or inhibiting undesirable plant growth in cabbages.

Lower alkyl and lower alkinyl in the formula have up to four carbon atoms.
