  • Patent number: 4742667
Abstract: An apparatus for packaging a product in containers includes a sterilization station and a conveyor for intermittently conveying containers to the sterilization station. A vaporizing nozzle communicates with a reservoir of liquid disinfectant containing hydrogen peroxide and a source of compressed air. The nozzle is intermittently opened and closed whereby the compressed air vaporizes the disinfectant and a mixture of liquid disinfectant in fine droplets and compressed air is ejected when the nozzle is open. A tube is connected with its intake end at the nozzle and is disposed parallel to the jet emitted from the nozzle. A heater on the tube heats the inner surface of the tube to a temperature that is sufficient high to rapidly evaporate the disinfectant in the mixture. As a result a mixed flow of compressed air and evaporated disinfectant leaves the output end of the tube and enters the container in the sterilization station.

  • Patent number: 4631173
Abstract: A method of sterilizing containers with hydrogen peroxide which comprises combining a liquid containing the peroxide with compressed air and atomizing the combination onto a heated surface to effect vaporization of the liquid, and immediately blowing the mixture of vapor and air over the area to be sterilized. A suitable apparatus is shown.

  • Patent number: 4251303
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for making a fillet seam closure on folding boxes fabricated from box-board internally lined with aluminum foil and coated with a thermal plastic resin includes folding the fillet seam along a fold line, holding the areas of the fillet seam to be welded together by applying compressive forces along a line parallel to the desired weld seam and slightly spaced therefrom between the weld seam and the fold line and ultrasonically welding the fillet seam with a simultaneous application of pressure in the weld seam which gradually decreases from the weld seam center line to the edge facing the fold line to effect the displacement of the thermal plastic resin from the center line towards the edge in the formation of a V-joint. The weld is allowed to cool off and the compressor forces are maintained during the welding and the cooling operations.

  • Patent number: 4241560
Abstract: An apparatus for folding and closing to top of folding cartons prefabricated from cut boxboard stock having an inner thermoplastic-resin liner includes a stepwise conveyor for conveying the folding cartons in a row, upright, with the fillet seam of the cartons perpendicular to the direction of travel, and a single folding, pressing and welding station having ultrasonic welding means including a vibratable tip and a folding, pressing and welding tool. The tool includes a pair of jaws and the tip, which are mounted for movement toward each other in the manner of tongs, wherein one of said jaws includes a folding wedge and an anvil above said folding wedge, and the other jaw is configured as a folding and clamping wedge. The jaws and holder are mounted on a common holder for movement into and out of engagement with the fillet seam of each container on the conveyor.

  • Patent number: 4080237
Abstract: A method for flat pressing and sticking down of a fillet seam of a roof-shaped folding closure of a package whose outside surface is provided with a thermoplastic material, comprising transporting the package in a direction transverse to the fillet seam, heating a first area of the side surface of the fillet seam rearward of the seam relative to the direction of transport and heating a second area of the outside surface of the package complementary with the first area, and transporting the heated package past a stationary member positioned so as to press the fillet seam and cause it to stick down to the outside surface of the package. A third and fourth area respectively on the side surface and on the package and respectively spaced from the first and second areas can also be heated to form two spaced stuck down areas. By pulling upward therebetween, the seam can be raised for opening the package.
