  • Patent number: 4941391
Abstract: In an explosive powder actuated setting device, a driving piston (8) is displaceable between a ready-to-fire position and a fired position within a barrel (12) formed by a piston guide (5). When the piston is driven from the ready-to-fire position into the fired position, it is held by braking balls (17) supported in recesses (16) in the piston guide. As it moves into the fired position, the piston moves the braking balls into the range of a spring (18) which biases the balls inwardly against the shank (11) of the piston (8). When the piston is returned into the ready-to-fire position, the balls move out of the range of the spring releasing the biasing force acting on the piston shank via the balls.

  • Patent number: 4883211
Abstract: An explosive powder charge operated fastening element setting device includes a housing supporting a handle. A damping unit is arranged between the handle and the housing so that the handle is displaceable in the setting direction of the setting device against a force developed in the damping device. A fastening element guide is mounted in the housing for movement opposite to the setting direction against a spring force. The force of the damping unit is greater than the spring force. The damping unit includes a cylinder containing a first fluid medium acting on a piston pressing, outside the cylinder, against the housing with a second fluid medium within the cylinder pressurizing the first fluid medium.

  • Patent number: 4627599
Abstract: A sealing device for a high vacuum valve having a movable member which is adapted to be moved to open and close said valve, wherein a first sealing surface is formed on the movable member and a second sealing surface is formed on a housing of the valve with the first and second sealing surfaces being moved relative to each other during movement of the movable member. The first and second sealing surfaces are spaced apart when the valve is in the closed position and a solid sealing member is interposed therebetween, the sealing member being formed with an annular configuration having an inner rounded edge and an outer rounded edge adapted to be engaged between the first and second sealing surfaces. The outer edge of the annular sealing member is formed with a smaller curvature than the inner edge.

  • Patent number: 4136854
Abstract: A metallic valve member having an annular, tapering sealing face makes practically line contact along a circle with a valve seat whose frustoconical inner portion is a sheet metal element having a rounded edge directed substantially at right angles toward the sealing face. An axial closing force applied to the valve member produces a much higher sealing force holding the edge of the seat engaged with the sealing face of the valve member.

  • Patent number: 4088301
Abstract: In a valve arrangement in which a metallic valve body has an edge portion elongated in a closed loop and can be moved into a position of sealing engagement over the entire length of the loop with a cooperating seating surface in a vacuum line, and the engaged edge portion is pressed against the seating surface with a pressure sufficient to form a vacuum tight seal, the invention provides a hollow valve body whose cavity is sealed by a first wall portion. A peripheral part of the wall portion envelops a central part and is joined to at least one other wall portion along the closed loop of the edge portion. The first wall portion slopes inward of the cavity from each longitudinal section of the loop toward the central part. When a gas under sufficient pressure moves the central part of the first wall portion outward of the cavity, the peripheral part and the joined edge portion expand, and the edge portion is pressed against the seating surface.
