  • Patent number: 4913085
Abstract: A booth for applying a powdered coating to the surfaces of workpieces in which a clean gas zone is joined to the coating zone via the rear wall, which is connected to an extractor fan. Located in a recess of the rear wall is a frame-like structure, the outer frame of which is split up into individual areas by means of frame cross-members each area receiving a filter element, which is housed in an interchangeable cassette, and consisting of a continuous zig-zag shaped or wave-shaped surface-membrane filter strip. Each area of the frame is covered in a leak-proof manner by a protective hood in hood space in an oblique manner towards the coating zone and detach the excess powder attached to the membrane applied thereon, which is diverted through a slat-type screen down to the floor of the booth and into a powder container. Thorough cleaning can be effected by a second cleaning device arranged in the coating zone or after removal of an interchangeable cassette from the booth.

  • Patent number: 4798340
Abstract: A stream of carrier gas with powder particles is introduced at the feeding nd (2) of a powder pipe (1) in the direction of arrow (3) for coating workpieces. The material of the coating powder, of the powder pipe (1) and of displacement bodies (21, 22) built in the latter have different dielectric constants. At a certain distance from the outlet end (5) is mounted a charging device (12) provided with boosting electrodes (15) projecting inwardly and connected through a protective resistance (15) to a high-voltage supply (17). A rear counter-electrode (7, 26, 27) comprises an earthed conductive body (7). The displacement bodies (21, 22) accelerate the flow of powder particles. The latter come repeatedly in contact with the inner surface (11) of the powder pipe (1) and the displacement bodies (21, 22) communicating negatively charged particles (10) to them, after charge separation, whereas the positively charged particles (4) remain attached to the powder particles.

Abstract: A booth for applying a powdered coating to the surface of workpieces in which a clean gas zone (47) is joined to the coating zone (18) via the rear wall (14), which is connected to an extractor fan. Located in a recess (21) of the rear wall (14) is a frame-like structure (22), the outer frame (17) of which is split up into individual areas (24) by means of frame cross-members (23), each area receiving a filter element (25), which is housed in an interchangeable cassette, and consisting of a continuous zig-zig shaped or wave-shaped surface-membrane filter strip. Each area of the frame is covered in a leakproof manner by a protective hood (69) in whose hood space (25) in an oblique manner towards the coating zone (18) and detach the excess powder attached to the membrane applied thereon, which is diverted through a slat-type screen (55) down to the floor of the booth (67) and into a powder container (80).

  • Patent number: 4506625
Abstract: There is provided a powder spray chamber for coating the surface of workpes disposed in a coating space having a rotationally symmetrical filter carrier carrying a filter element on its mantle, the filter carrier being rotatingly mounted in an opening in a wall separating the coating space from a clean air space and having its free end sealingly projecting into said coating space, a vacuum source in said clean air space for creating a vacuum interiorly of said filter carrier, and cleaning means for cleaning said filter element.

  • Patent number: 4504292
Abstract: A powder spray booth wherein the workpieces are moved through a coating se and coated by powder coming from an electrostatic spray gun at a spray opening. An aspiration blower is used for forcing the air coming in through the spray opening through a cyclone unit with a battery of cyclone separators and through a filter unit with a filter bag. The air is moved upwards along upwards sloping lines of flow to the aspiration duct, and the powder is moved downwardly under the effect of gravity. Only a part of the powder reaches the cyclone separators and is removed from them through airlocks. The part of the powder not separated in this way deposits in the filter space, a part of it only after cleaning the filter. This part of the powder is removed on opening an outlet door and is taken up on the screen of the powder car and then mixed with the powder from the cyclone separators or, by opening the outlet door, run into a space, where a second powder car may be placed.

  • Patent number: 4354451
Abstract: A booth forming a spraying chamber for workpieces to be coated with powder particles has a substantially fully open front side, giving access to an electrostatic spray gun, and a substantially fully open rear side adjoining a housing of a detachable powder-collecting unit which is open toward the chamber while being separated therefrom by an apertured screen. Tubular filter elements in the housing of the powder-collecting unit, having air-permeable peripheral surfaces, communicate with the suction end of a blower in an overlying clean-air unit, thereby giving rise to an air stream which passes generally horizontally through the chamber from its front side to its rear side and entrains particles discharged by the spray gun. Particles bypassing the workpiece to be coated may traverse the apertured screen and cling to the surfaces of the filter elements from which they may be intermittently dislodged by an air blast directed into these elements from the clean-air unit.

  • Patent number: 4169560
Abstract: An electrostatic spray gun for powdered material in which separate connecns for supplying powder and compressed air are provided together with a spray tube and spray nozzle. A charging device charges the powder electrostatically. The connections for the powder and compressed gas supply are held in a common housing portion. A gun barrel, together with spray nozzle, constitute nested hollow members fastened to the front of the housing. A barrel head on an outer end of the gun barrel holds the spray nozzle to the outer end of the spray tube which is fastened axially and radially to the housing by an exterior barrel tube. A spacer which encloses the spray tube is held on both ends and is fixed to rotate with housing and barrel head.

  • Patent number: 4088268
Abstract: An electrostatic spray gun for powdered material in which separate connecns for supplying powder and compressed gas are provided. An intake for introducing the powdered material to a conveying gas stream, and a spray tube and spray nozzle are also provided with the gun. A charging device charges the powder electrostatically. The connections for the powder and compressed gas supply, as well as an injector are held in a common housing portion. Supply channels for the powder and conveying gas lead from their respective connections to the injector. A metering gas channel leads from the compressed gas connection to the powder supply channel, and control valves are provided in the metering gas channel and the conveying gas channel. The common housing portion has a connection for a powder magazine and a connection for loosening gas to be supplied to the magazine. This connection leads to the compressed air connection via a passage located in the housing portion and having an additional control valve.
