  • Patent number: 4055209
Abstract: A pneumatic radial tire having tread, outer shoulder, and sidewall portions of elastomeric material over a radial carcass. The tread and outer shoulder portions comprise similar circumferentially overlapping patterns of lugs and grooves. The majority of the edges of the lugs are disposed at an angle of approximately 60.degree. with respect to the equator of the tire. The tire has a groove adjacent each outer shoulder portion and bounded by radially displaced adjacent outer shoulder lug portions and by radially displaced adjacent sidewall lugs. Each such groove adjacent each outer shoulder portion has relatively long sections extending circumferentially of the tire. The tire has a tread having at all points of the tread lug contact area substantially identical surface pressures and has high road holding ability on dry as well as on wet or snow-covered roads. The tire is also effective in draining a substantial volume of water or waterlogged snow and provides improved travel confort.

  • Patent number: 3956931
Abstract: A method for determining the preferred direction of rotation of a vehicle tire including determining the direction of rotation of the tire in which the lateral structural force acting on the tire is greater. After this determination the tire is marked in a manner indicating the direction of rotation in which the lateral structural force is greater. In this way the tire may be mounted on a vehicle so that the conventionally forward direction of rotation of the tire is in the direction of greater lateral structural force so that the effect of the forces acting on the tire which tend to alter its direction of travel are minimized.

  • Patent number: 3945421
Abstract: Reinforcement for a pneumatic tire for vehicles, comprising a first, inner belt ply, a pair of lateral strips connected to the free edges of the inner belt ply, the lateral strips and the inner belt ply lying in substantially the same plane, and a second, outer belt ply having a pair of opposed flanges which fold over and hem in the lateral strips and at least the marginal areas of the inner belt ply. The lateral strips are substantially spaced apart from the folded edges of the outer belt ply, so that the outer belt ply is superpositioned on itself in the areas between the folded edges of the outer belt ply and the free edges of the lateral strips.
