  • Patent number: 5158779
Abstract: The surface of micronized and hydrophilized powder particles of a hydrophobic or sparingly soluble substance is covered with a cohesive layer of not more than 0.1 part by weight of surfactant in not more than 10 parts by weight of a binder (based on 100 parts by weight of the substance). A sparingly soluble or insoluble antibiotic is converted to instant granules or instant tablets, while a hydrophobic, moderately soluble to readily soluble pharmaceutical substance, such as, for example, acetylsalicylic acid or paracetamol, is converted to effervescent granules or effervescent tablets. The particles are preferably applied to carbohydrate crystals by means of a binder. • Patent number: 4911930
Abstract: Solid, loose particulate materials are treated with vaporizable agent in a process chamber. The materials are combined with a mixture of hot gas and vapor in order to condense finely subdivided amounts of the treatment agent on the material. After a suitable time of reaction, the condensed material is partially removed from the treated material so that the pressure in the process chamber is reduced at least to the point at which the treatment agent partially evaporates, whereupon the portion which has revaporized is extracted from the process chamber. This cycle of introduction and removal of the treating agent is preferably repeated in a program-controlled operation until the desired result is achieved and a product which is suitably agglomerated is obtained.

  • Patent number: 4832956
Abstract: A desintegration tablet contains the filler material in a form and/or size which when coming in contact with water at ambient temperature dissolves so slowly that the water absorption and the action of the desintegration agent are not affected. The grains are either coated with a layer of slowly dissolving substance, in particular a colloid or pseudo-colloid, or consist of a crushed melted substance having a grain size preferably of between 0.2 and 0.6 mm, e.g. mannitol, sorbital and/or xylitol.

  • Patent number: 4762702
Abstract: A pharmaceutical preparation containing ibuprofen is disclosed. In the preparation, the ibuprofen particles are enveloped by a coating of a hydro-colloid and fumaric acid. Preferably, the hydro-colloid comprises xanthan gum and/or maltodextrin. This preparation reduces the tendency of ibuprofen to irritate the esophagus and the gastrointestinal tract when taken orally. An effervescent mixture of the ibuprofen containing preparation can be prepared by incorporating citric acid and calcium carbonate into the mixture. A process for the manufacture of the ibuprofen containing preparation is also disclosed. In this process, ibuprofen particles are coated with the hydro-colloid and fumaric acid under vacuum conditions in a vacuum mixing machine and the resulting preparation is thereafter vacuum-dried.

  • Patent number: 4737366
Abstract: A chewing gum which consists of a chewing gum base, fats or waxes, fillers, additives and active substances, the chewing gum base being present in a particle size of 0.2 to 1 mm, together with the fillers, additives and active substances, in the matrix of fats and waxes. The tablet form is preferably coated with a tablet coating. Production is effected by separately comminuting the chewing gum base on the one hand and the matrix on the other hand at low temperatures, mixing the two types of granules and then pressing the mixture on a cooled tableting press. Finally, the tablets are coated with a covering layer and slowly heated to 40.degree.-45.degree. C.

  • Patent number: 4678661
Abstract: Effervescent granulates, particularly for the manufacture of effervescent tablets, comprising at least one solid, crystalline edible organic acid and at least one carbonate which releases carbon dioxide upon reaction with the organic acid, the acid crystals comprising a coating which contains calcium carbonate adhering to the surface of the acid crystals by means of a bonding layer formed by a reaction at the interface with the crystal of a calcium carbonate coating material. The coating is built up in multi-layers and includes at least two carbonate layers, the layer which is bonded essentially to the acid crystal being composed of calcium carbonate with the succeeding layers adhering to the carbonate layer by means of a bonding layer formed by reaction of the acid and the carbonate. The invention also deals with methods of manufacture as well as fields of use for the new effervescent granulates.

  • Patent number: 3946996
Abstract: Apparatus for mixing and granulating a finely divided solid material, preferably including a screening of the final granular product, said apparatus including a mixing drum or cylindrical vessel with closable feed and discharge means, a rotatably driven shaft on the drum axis carrying conveyance means for mixing, stirring and conveying the solid material being treated, and pivotal support means to adjustably tilt the drum such that the drum axis and the rotatable shaft are pivoted within a substantially vertical plane. There is preferably a tubular discharge member at one end of the drum to provide a suitable sieve or screening means at the point where the final granular product is withdrawn from the drum. The apparatus is particularly useful in the mixing and granulation steps required to form a multi-component powdery material into granules which can be directly pressed and shaped into tablets, pellets, pills or the like.
