  • Patent number: 5235938
Abstract: An internal combustion engine has an induction conduit for the induction of fresh air. A section of the induction conduit extends over the cylinder head cover. In order to achieve the simplest and most operationally reliable engine space ventilation possible, the induction conduit section is provided with at least one connection stub pipe which protrudes through an opening provided in the cylinder head cover into a camshaft space. The camshaft space is connected to the induction conduit in an advantageously simple manner.

  • Patent number: 5109726
Abstract: A camshaft, especially for high-power internal-combustion engines, has bearing points and cams consisting of a base circle and a cam face. The bearing points and cams are connected to one another by non-cylindrical shank portions. In order to increase the bending resistance of the camshaft and, at the same time, to provide a predetermined necessary clearance for machining tools, a shank portion between two cams is made barrel-shaped, with a maximum diameter which is located in the middle region of the shank portion and which is equal to or less than the diameter of the base circle.

  • Patent number: 4658763
Abstract: A liquid-cooled cylinder head is provided for an internal-combustion engine having a water space reaching from the cylinder head bottom to a cylinder head ceiling and having a control space located above it. Supporting walls extend in the cooling water space transversely between sections of the cylinder head bottom on the side of the combustion chamber. For reinforcement of the cylinder head housing, a longitudinal rib is provided in the water space within the cylinder head ceiling. In the planes of the supporting walls, rib webs are provided that overlap into sections of the cooling water space that are adjacent the combustion chamber. In the control space, a crossconnection is provided consisting of longitudinally and transversely extending ribs. The resultant cylinder head exhibits a reinforced structure having superior resistance to applied force.

  • Patent number: 4658580
Abstract: A fastening arrangement of an inner pipe line arranged in a housing adapted to be closed off gas-tight and conducting the exhaust gases, which is easy to assemble and reliable in operation, is attained by plug-in connections. The ends of axially adjacent pipe sections of the inner pipe line are thereby centered in retaining rings. Each retaining ring includes two approximately radially projecting lugs, of which one is constructed as a fixed point and the other as a displaceable coupling.

  • Patent number: 4570442
Abstract: A piston internal combustion engine in which for the engagement and disengagement of an exhaust gas turbocharger (12), its exhaust gas closure device (33) is opened, respectively, closed only so far that the charging air pressure produced by the continuously engaged exhaust gas turbocharger (11) remains approximately constant. By re-routing a small air quantity by way of a by-pass line (36) to the suction side of the compressor (24), the power input of the compressors (21 and 24) is kept small. During the engagement of the exhaust gas turbocharger (12), a small energy quantity is therefore sufficient in order to accelerate the same to its operating rotational speed. Thereafter, the engaging operation is terminated by complete opening of the exhaust gas closure device (33) and by opening of the charging air closure device (34).

  • Patent number: 4557111
Abstract: A control system for the engagement and disengagement of exhaust gas turbochargers, in which the charging air pressure acts as control magnitude on a first control end face of a slide valve member against the force of a spring; in order to prevent the effects of the strong pressure fluctuation of the charging air pressure, which occur during engagement and disengagement of an exhaust gas turbocharger, on the shifting behavior of the control device, the slide valve member includes a second control end face, on which a second control pressure acts temporarily; the second control pressure and the first control pressure and the working medium for the control system may be formed by the charging air pressure so that no additional pressure sources are required; however, by the use of a spring biased valve the second control pressure may additionally be used for the filling limitation during starting and in the range of lower outputs of the piston driven internal combustion engine.

  • Patent number: 4430850
Abstract: A row of spindles carried on a common rail have whorls in tangential contact with a driving belt urged toward the spindle axes by pressure rollers offset therefrom, the whorls being of a diameter on the order of half the roller diameter. Each whorl is journaled on an upper end of an upright, stationary shaft supported by the rail through two vertically separated elastic retainers.

  • Patent number: 4205527
Abstract: An exhaust manifold for a supercharged internal combustion engine which includes inner pipes carrying the exhaust gases from the engine and a water-cooled housing surrounding the inner pipes at a predetermined spacing. The housing is mounted to exhaust gas flanges of the internal combustion engine by way of water-cooled intermediate flanges. The housing includes an opening on a side thereof facing away from the engine with the opening extending approximately over the entire length of the housing and being closable in a gas-tight fashion by a cover. The housing is bolted to the exhaust gas flanges from the inside thereof and the inner pipes are formed of individual pipe segments assembled with plug connections with the length of the various pipe segments corresponding approximately to the cylinder spacing of the internal combustion engine.
