  • Patent number: 4409046
Abstract: A metallic syringe tube is fused to a plastic fitting into which the tube is inserted so that the inner end of the tube contacts the fitting, by clamping the tube between a counterelectrode which acts as an abutment for the inner end of the tube and a clamping jaw which engages the free end of the tube, and applying a resistance heating voltage to the tube between the counterelectrode and a location between the fitting and the clamping jaw for heating at least a portion of the syringe tube inner end in contact with the fitting to the melting temperature of the plastic forming the fitting.

  • Patent number: 4289672
Abstract: Glass fibers for reinforcing thermoplastic resins are sized with an aqueous dispersion comprising a polyurethane-ionomer as a film-forming agent and a bonding agent comprising an epoxy-containing alkoxysilane. Advantageously the polyurethane is a very small particle ionomer and the bonding agent is selected from the group consisting of(a) an epoxyalkyl alkoxysilane+an aminoalkyl alkoxysilane,(b) an epoxyalkyl alkoxysilane+a low-molecular weight aliphatic primary or secondary mono-amine,(c) an aminoalkyl alkoxysilane+a low-molecular weight monoepoxide, and(d) an epoxyalkyl alkoxysilane.

  • Patent number: 4056370
Abstract: A type A zeolite corresponding to the formulax Me.sup.II O .multidot. n ME.sup.I.sub.2 O .multidot. Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 .multidot. (1.85 .+-. 0.5) SiO.sub.2 in whichMe.sup.I is a monovalent metal;Me.sup.II is a divalent metal;x has a value of at least 0.80; and n has a value of (1.0 .+-. 0.2) - xIs produced by treating a type Na-A zeolite with a solution of a divalent metal salt to replace sodium and introduce x moles of the divalent metal. This introduces far more divalent metal than is needed for adsorption but the resulting zeolite does not undergo the loss in adsorptive capacity upon regeneration in the presence of water vapor which is exhibited by those of a lower degree of exchange. The new zeolites are particularly suitable for treatment of a mixture of substances comprising a polar or polarizable substances and less polar or less polarizable substances, a mixture of nitrogen and oxygen and a mixture of CO.sub.2 with other gases.

  • Patent number: 3933991
Abstract: A catalyst for oxidation of SO.sub.2 to SO.sub.3, which can be used as a fluidized bed catalyst. An abrasive resistant support is formed by adding silica filler and a clay binder to a silica sol; adding hydrated magnesium oxide to the resulting mixture, to form a gellable composition; dispersing the gellable composition in a liquid to form gel spheres; calcining the spheres; and treating them with an acid to remove acid soluble components. After the acid treatment, the support is impregnated with an alkali metal vanadate solution and calcined.
