  • Patent number: 7730591
Abstract: An apparatus on a carding machine has a covering comprising work and cover elements lying opposite the clothing of a high-speed cylinder. There is, in succession, an air exhaust opening for the exit of air and an opening for entry of air, past which openings a flow of fibers and air is passed. To allow improved detachment and elimination of short fibers in a simple manner, the spacing of the covering upstream of the exhaust opening is smaller than the spacing of the covering between air exhaust opening and air inlet opening and an airflow flows against the direction of rotation of the cylinder along the surface of the cylinder and flows with short fibers through the air exhaust opening.

  • Publication number: 20080092339
Abstract: An apparatus for the sorting or selection of fibre, especially for combing, is supplied by supply device to a sorting device. Clamping devices are provided which clamp the fibre sliver at a distance from its free end, for combing in order to loosen and remove non-clamped constituents, such as, for example, short fibres, neps, dust and the like from the free end. To enable productivity to be increased and an improved combed sliver to be obtained, downstream of the supply there is arranged at least one rotatably mounted roller which is provided with clamping devices for the fibre sliver, which clamping devices are distributed spaced apart around the periphery of the roller, and combing elements are associated with the periphery of the roller.

  • Patent number: 5052413
Abstract: A method for making a smoking article is described wherein an aerosol generating cartridge is inserted into a sleeve, preferably having a tobacco insulating material. Also described are articles of manufacture having an elongate jacket module with a rod segment and an annular segment. The rod segment has a length of rod of fibrous material. Disposed logitudinally on either side of the rod segment is an annular segment of insulating material.Additionally, articles of manufacture useful for making smoking articles are described having an elongate structure with two or more repeating sections wherein each section preferably has a tobacco-containing spacer segment and mouthend segment.

  • Patent number: 4870748
Abstract: An apparatus for making smoking articles is described. The preferred apparatus comprises structure to form a passage axially through a jacketed rod of tobacco, at one end of which there is a tubular sleeve of non-combustible material, and to insert an aerosol generating cartridge containing an aerosol forming substance, at one end of which there is a fuel element, into the passage so that the aerosol forming substance is within the passage in the rod of tobacco and the fuel element is within the sleeve of non-combustible material.

  • Patent number: 4860772
Abstract: A shower of fibrous material is directed against the underside of the lower reach of a foraminous endless belt conveyor so that the fibrous material gathers into a continuous stream which is attracted to the conveyor by suction and is moved longitudinally past a trimming device which removes the surplus. The density of the stream is monitored upstream and downstream of the trimming device, and the corresponding signals are processed in an evaluating circuit into additional signals which are indicative of the quantity of the removed surplus. The removed surplus is weighed and the weighing device generates signals also denoting the quantity of the surplus. Such signals are compared with the additional signals and further signals, which denote the differences between the intensities of the compared signals, are used to modify signals denoting the density of the stream downstream of the trimming device. The thus modified signals are used to adjust the trimming device.

  • Patent number: 4804079
Abstract: Plain cigarettes which are obtained by subdividing two parallel cigarette rods issuing from a maker of twin cigarette rods are accepted by successive orbiting arms of a first rotary conveyor in such a way that each arm attracts a cigarette of one of the rows and a cigarette of the other row. The arms deliver the respective pairs of cigarettes to a transfer station where the cigarettes are accepted by the peripheral flutes of a second rotary conveyor for admission into or for transport in a filter tipping machine. Alternating flutes of the second conveyor are mounted on pivotable levers or on reciprocable pushers so that each such movable flute can receive a cigarette from the oncoming arm of the first conveyor while the other cigarette is being transferred directly from the arm into a non-movable flute of the second conveyor. The mutual spacing of cigarettes can be increased or reduced during transfer from the arms into the flutes of the second conveyor.
