  • Publication number: 20140004352
Abstract: An article of manufacture includes a substrate having an outer surface clad with a metal construct including one or more continuous metal layers, at least one of which is an amorphous layer or a microcrystalline layer having a grain size below 5000 nm. A bonding layer is provided between the substrate and the layered metallic construct so that the bonding layer is in direct contact with the substrate and with the layered metallic construct. The bonding layer is made of a substantially fully cured resin including at least 10% of a rubber. The layered metallic construct has peel strength greater than 10N/cm. Also provided is a process for making the article including coating an article outer surface with a bonding layer and a layered metallic construct. The bonding layer is substantially fully cured before the layered metal construct is bonded to the article. The coated article is annealed.

  • Publication number: 20080171230
Abstract: Thin film ferroelectric capacitor composites exhibiting reduced leakage current and enhanced breakdown strength are prepared using sol-gel processing. The composite contains a buffer layer and at least one dielectric layer and is formed by depositing by sol-gel processing onto a substrate a composition containing a heterocyclic amide, such as polyvinylpyrrolidone.

  • Publication number: 20040175585
Abstract: The invention relates to multilayered structures having a crystalline or partially crystalline barium strontium titanate (BST) dielectric thin film composites and a metallic foil substrate. A barrier layer may be interposed between the metallic foil substrate and dielectric thin film. In addition, the invention relates to a capacitor comprised of the multilayer structure containing such composites.

  • Patent number: 6090336
Abstract: A method and apparatus for manufacturing an injection-molded article having an outer film on an exposed surface. The method includes securing the film about its periphery within a mold cavity prior to injection of molten material into the cavity. One way of securing the film is by applying vacuum pressure through peripheral holes in a frame surrounding the mold cavity. Molten material is injected into the cavity, behind the film and the film slips from its initial position to be forced against a wall of the cavity by molten material being injected into the cavity. The apparatus includes a frame for a molding apparatus, adapted to initially secure the film in place prior to movement of the core block into place and to permit the film to slip from its initial position to be forced against the cavity wall as molten material fills the cavity.

  • Patent number: 5435865
Abstract: A process for manufacture of an automotive trim piece having a polymeric skin fastened to substrate. The polymer, for example, polyvinyl chloride has the property that upon cooling to a relatively rigid state the polymer shrinks. The process includes a step of molding the polymeric skin separately from the substrate such that the skin has a rear face for abutment with an obverse face of the substrate and a pair of lips extending from ends of the rear face. The lips are configured for engaging corresponding edges of the substrate. The skin is cooled to a relatively elastic state, and the skin and substrate are assembled while the skin is in the relatively elastic state. On further cooling, shrinkage forces of the skin and the skin lips in abutment with the corresponding edges of the substrate produce a snug fit from edge to edge of the skin to the substrate and the skin becomes relatively rigid.
