  • Patent number: 4815356
Abstract: A breech lock mechanism for automatic firearms, in particular, a rigidly closing breech lock mechanism with loosely located support flaps in its breech head which will slide along an associated and complementary formed latching and unlatching component into its rearward latching position during the opening of the breech lock mechanism. The surfaces of the support flaps which face towards the latching and unlatching component are at least partly provided with a lubricating layer whose hardness is different with respect to the complementary latching and unlatching component.

  • Patent number: 4457092
Abstract: In automatic firearms having a caliber in the range of about 20 to 40 mm, so-called "jammed shell casings" are occasionally encountered due to the high cadences during the extraction and ejection of the empty cartridge casings, so that the returning breech mechanism tends to lose the cartridge, and the ejector plunger no longer fully impacts against the casing to be ejected. In order to avoid this drawback a recess arranged in the breech head concentrically to the firing pin is provided along its periphery opposite an extractor claw with at least one projection to assist in the centering and retention of the cartridge casing and which can be adapted to the respective type of breech mechanism. The projection is formed by cutting or non-cutting working. Preferably, two or more such projections are formed which then, together with the extractor claw, form a type of "three-point support" for the cartridge casing during the extraction.

  • Patent number: 4440065
Abstract: A breech mechanism for automatic firearms having a high cadence; and, in particular, a rigidly closing breech mechanism which includes a gas piston effecting the opening thereof and which stands in communication with a sleeve, a coil spring concentrically positioned interiorly thereof which is stressed upon the opening of the breech mechanism and which will conduct a latching and unlatching component into its closing position upon release of the energy stored therein. The gas piston as well as the closure spring each have a shock absorber associated therewith. The shock absorbers essentially consist of loose, stacked discs, plates or the like of high rigidity and toughness, whose surfaces incorporate production-caused uneveness.

  • Patent number: 4397217
Abstract: A recoil and counter recoil device for a firearm which can fire a plurality of shots in succession comprises a recoil spring bearing against a barrel and a receiver which receives the barrel for motion in a recoil and counter recoil direction and an annular spring which is axially deformable to exert a load connected between the barrel and the receiver to counteract the action of the recoil spring in the counter recoil direction to cause the barrel to float in a confined motion in the recoil and counter recoil directions during successive firing of the firearm.

  • Patent number: 4292881
Abstract: An automatic firearm and particularly a gas operated weapon comprises a cartridge feeding system which operates upon movement of a reciprocating breech block during recoil and counter recoil to feed a series of cartridges in succession to the cartridge chamber of the gun barrel under the control of gas pressure which is generated during the firing of each cartridge. The cartridge feeding mechanism includes a drive head having a rotatable bushing which is driven by a gear drive and with an end drive face which has an engagement slot therein formed with inwardly tapering walls in a direction inwardly of the drive face. A cartridge feed mechanism is pivoted to the drive head and it may be positioned in engagement with the drive head or removed for purposes of changing ammunition. The cartridge feed mechanism includes a drive hub with a transfer element in said hub which has an outwardly tapered couplng portion which is engageable in the slot of the drive face of the rotatable bushing.

  • Patent number: 4034644
Abstract: A firearm comprises a stock having a barrel mounted thereon for the magazine chamber associated with the stock which has a passage for the cartridges extending between an interior chamber of the magazine and the cartridge chamber associated with the barrel. The magazine is constructed to contain a plurality of cartridges therein for example in an annular arrangement around a rotatable cartridge transport star. The cartridges are arranged in parallel relationship to the magazine chamber and they are moved by the transport mechanism during the firing operation successively into association with the cartridge chamber of the barrel. The magazine is also provided with an opening which provides means for mounting a cartridge clip or carrier so that cartridges may be loaded into the magazine through the opening which is communicable with the chamber in the magazine for the cartridges.

  • Patent number: 4023295
Abstract: A firearm, comprises a gun housing having a side opening and a gun barrel supported in the housing with a projectile bore which is alignable with a cartridge chamber of a cartridge holder. The cartridge holder is mounted on a bearing member which is journaled in the housing at a position overlying the barrel. A charge handle projects out of the housing and it is guided on the bearing member and is movable relative to the bearing member to cause rotation of the bearing member with the cartridge holder in order to project the cartridge chamber out of the side opening of the housing to a cartridge ejection and loading position. In the cartridge ejection and loading position, an injector pin, which is under the force of a compression spring, is actuated to drive an ejector pin through the chamber and eject any cartridge which may still remain in the chamber as a result of a misfire.

  • Patent number: 3995390
Abstract: A firearm construction includes a housing mounting at least one, and preferably a plurality, of barrels, each having a firing bore terminating in an inner projectile charging end and including a magazine compartment in the housing around the projectile charging end of the barrel. A cartridge sealing sleeve is associated with each barrel and extends concentrically behind the projectile charging end and provides a centering for the projectile and the propelling charge therefor. The propelling charge and projectile are carried in a cartridge holder in the form of a plate having a plurality of circumferentially and preferably also radially spaced bores each of which includes a cartridge holder. The cartridge holders advantageously comprise short members having a rear end with a chamber defining a priming cap chamber which communicates through a central passage to an opposite front end in the form of a concave or recessed end which contains the propelling charge and the projectile.

  • Patent number: 3985062
Abstract: A firearm, particularly a short firearm for firing caseless ammunition, comprises a housing having a sleeve fixed therein with first and second spring members which are biased against a projection on the gun barrel in order to hold it against axial displacement in each direction. The barrel includes a breech portion with a magazine chamber, and cartridges are moved out of the magazine chamber into a cartridge chamber by a gas piston which is displaceable in a lock member which, together with the gas piston, seals the space in the cartridge chamber behind the cartridge during firing. The lock member includes projections which are engaged behind recesses of the rear breech portion of the barrel.

  • Patent number: 3954042
Abstract: A firearm, particularly a compact weapon for firing caseless ammunition, comprises a support having a handle and a firing trigger adjacent the handle connected to a firing mechanism in the butt preferably for firing caseless ammunition. A plurality of barrels are arranged in parallel relationship on the support and a magazine is rotatably mounted on the support between the support and the butt which is pivoted at the end of the support. The magazine includes a plurality of radially spaced circumferentially extending rows of cartridge receiving bores which are aligned with the respective barrels and adapted to be indexed into association with each barrel. The magazine includes means for sealing the bores during the firing of the cartridge and for permitting the passage of the pressure gases to a control bore having a control piston therein which is movable by the combustion gases to index the magazine during each firing.
