  • Publication number: 20130309409
Abstract: There is provided a coating for a body of steel or a carbon fiber reinforced plastic material with an adhesion-promoting layer of thermoplastic that is deposited on the body, in the surface near material matrix of which solid particles are embedded in a form-fitting adhering manner such that a partial region of particles projects from the adhesion promoting layer. For producing such a coating, the adhesion-promoting layer is heated to a honey-like viscosity, and powder particles are injected by thermal spraying, into the surface near material matrix of the heated adhesion-promoting layer in a form-fitting adhering manner such that the tips of particles project. These tips connect to deposited powder particles which form the functional layer of oxide ceramic such as Al2O3, Cr2O3, TiO2, SiO2 or ZrO2 or mixtures therefrom and/or wear resistant hard metal such as WC/Co, Cr3C2/NiCr, NiCrBSi, WC/Ni, TiC/Ni, molybdenum, or chromium or mixtures or alloys thereof.

  • Publication number: 20110123767
Abstract: There is provided a coating for a body of steel or a carbon fiber reinforced plastic material, particularly a roller, with an adhesion-promoting layer of thermoplastic that is deposited on the body, in the surface near material matrix of which solid (powder) particles are embedded in a form-fitting adhering manner such that only a partial region of these particles projects from the adhesion promoting layer, as well as with a functional layer of oxide ceramic or wear-resistant hard metal overlaying the adhesion-promoting layer, in which the partial regions of the particles projecting from the adhesion-promoting layer are embedded. For producing such a coating, the adhesion-promoting layer preferably is heated to a honey-like viscosity, and powder particles are injected, for example by thermal spraying, into the surface near material matrix of the heated adhesion-promoting layer in a form-fitting adhering manner such that only the tips of these particles project.

  • Publication number: 20110048260
Abstract: There is provided a roller body made of steel, aluminium or carbon fibre reinforced plastic material, which, in printing units of wet offset machines, are in direct contact to the dampening form roller and which serve the formation of a stable ink-water-emulsion. There is further provided a method for producing such roller bodies. In conformity with the invention the roller body is provided with a porous coating of highly wear-resistant oxide ceramics or of wear-resistant hard metal, wherein pores that are open towards the circumferential surface of the roller body, are formed in the layer matrix of the coating preferably by applying the porous coating by a thermal spray process or an other coating process, and by subsequently grinding the coating to size to thereby open pores in the layer matrix. The surfaces produced in this manner preferably have a stable roughness of 1.0 ?m<Rz<500 ?m, in particular Rz=5 ?m to 25 ?m.

  • Publication number: 20110053741
Abstract: Corona roller comprising a cylindrical base body and a roller cover of dielectric material, and method for producing it. The roller cover includes a layer of thermoplastic material, e.g. polyamide, applied onto the outer surface of the base body. Solid (powder) particles having electrically insulating characteristics are imbedded in the material matrix of said layer in the vicinity of the surface thereof in a form-locking manner such that merely a partial region of said particles protrudes from said inner layer. A hard, wear- and corrosion-resistant surface is formed at the outer side of the layer of plastic material, said hard, wear- and corrosion-resistant surface likewise having electrically insulating characteristics. For producing the corona roller, the layer of thermoplastic material is heated to a viscosity similar to that of honey.

  • Patent number: 6514623
Abstract: A wear-resistant, ink-repellent coating, for printing-press components, and in particular, web-fed printing presses. In order to provide a seal for this low-wear coating which results in a permanent ink-repellent surface quality and which additionally has a high resistance to standard cleaning agents used in printing technology, the printing-press component which is to be protected is first provided with oxide ceramic or hard metal layer. This layer may be applied by thermal spraying. In addition, the component is treated with a polyorganosiloxane sealant, particularly polyhydridomethylsiloxane, including the necessary heat-curing at moderate temperatures of from 100° C. to 170° C. so as to prevent ink deposition. The sealing may also take place after the wear-resistant layer has undergone a grinding and polishing treatment.

  • Patent number: 5957052
Abstract: A printing machine roller, especially an ink roller, and preferably an ink distributor roller, with a coating of the entire outer cylindrical surface. The coating consists of a support matrix of a good heat-conducting and low-wear metal, e.g., nickel or aluminum-silicon alloy and graphite or plastic particles, e.g., of polyester, inlaid into the metal matrix. The coating is produced by thermal spraying, preferably plasma spraying or flame spraying. The residual porosity of the coating can be varied within wide limits based on process requirements. This residual porosity also permits the ink-friendliness to be varied within wide limits via sealing with an ink-friendly plastic. The roughness of such layers can be adjusted virtually as desired to the individual requirements of the offset process.
