Patent number: 5773376Abstract: A mainly inorganic foam is produced by foaming a filler-containing, preferably primary aqueous polyvalent metal phosphate solution having a defined viscosity, then by neutralising and cross-linking most of the secondary phosphoric acid protons by polyvalent cations. As foaming agents preferably carbonates are added that rapidly decompose in the acid metal phosphate solution. Cross-linking is ensured by hardening accelerators adapted to the foaming agent, for example polyvalent metal oxides. Accurately describable foaming characteristics are thus obtained which may be defined, as for a polyurethane foam, as starting time, rising time and setting time.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 1996Date of Patent: June 30, 1998Inventor: Gerhard Melcher

Patent number: 4927699Abstract: During the essentially continuous process for producing a polymer plastic, especially a foil or thin sheet (38) containing polymethyl methacrylate, a highly-viscous polymer plastic is first applied to a flat carrier inside a separating layer, whereby regions of the support surface remain free, in the manner of a surface pattern. Next a low-viscosity polymerizable monomer and/or pre-polymer (30) are cast on to this separating layer in such a way that it forms, over the separating layer, a liquid layer, onto which is applied a flat, thread-like support material (32), which may advantageously have a decorative surface and into which the support material (32) is then embedded or impressed. Next after the possible application of further layers consisting of high and/or low-viscosity plastic, especially inside a second separating layer, the thus produced material coating is transferred to the foil (38) or thin sheet, accompanied by polymerization of the plastics contained therein.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 1987Date of Patent: May 22, 1990Assignee: Isovolta Osterreichische Isolierstoffwerke AktiengesellschaftInventor: Gerhard Melcher

Patent number: 4687685Abstract: The process serves to impregnate planar carrier materials, especially those in the form of continuous webs, with synthetic resin to manufacture a stackable product, such as, e.g., paper-prepregs to be used for the manufacture of synthetic-resin-laminated panels. For the process, a highly viscous liquid synthetic resin coating (5) is applied to one surface of the carrier material (1), the coating is heated to a higher temperature, during or after which, respectively, the synthetic resin (4) of the coating (5) is at least in part absorbed by the carrier material (1). The carrier material (1') thusly coated with synthetic resin is then briefly subjected to such pressure, e.g., with the aid of a pair of pressure rollers (9), that the synthetic resin (4) evenly permeates the carrier material. For the concurrent impregnation of several carrier materials (1), the superposed carrier materials (1') coated with synthetic resin can be subjected to mechanical pressure.Type: GrantFiled: February 6, 1986Date of Patent: August 18, 1987Assignee: Isovolta Oesterreichische Isolierstoffwerke AktiengesellschaftInventor: Gerhard Melcher

Patent number: 4493732Abstract: A method and apparatus for implementing pyro-metallurgical processes, such as those involved in the reaction melting of fine grained solids or for the after-treatment of melts wherein an exothermically reacting solids/gas mixture is conducted through an acceleration jet as a heterogenous stream and is blown onto a melt contained in the furnace. The jet stream is ignited immediately upon discharge from the jet and a sharply focused or highly concentrated particle stream having a high surface power density (high mass flow velocity) and a high temperature is impacted against the melt. This results in the melt being subjected to localized intensive movement and is simultaneously heated. The method is suitable for the reaction melting of sulfidic or oxidic non-ferrous metal concentrates as well as for the reduction and/or depletion of non-ferrous metal containing slags, and for the reduction of metal melts.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 1983Date of Patent: January 15, 1985Assignee: Klockner-Humboldt-Deutz AGInventors: Gerhard Melcher, Wolfgang Wuth

Patent number: 4362561Abstract: Method and apparatus for smelting an ore concentrate or the like in which the concentrate is first melted in an oxidizing atmosphere and the smelt is thereafter treated with reducing gases to recover the metal values. One of the features of the present invention resides in conducting the after-treatment by means of blowing reducing gases into the smelt with a plurality of separate lances to provide a lighter slag phase and a heavier metal-containing phase, and separately withdrawing the slag phase and the metal containing phase from the furnace. In a particularly preferred embodiment of the invention, the smelt is aftertreated in the sequence involving first blowing an oxidizing gas thereon, then blowing a neutral gas thereon, and finally blowing a reducing gas thereon prior to separating the slag phase from the metal phase.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 1980Date of Patent: December 7, 1982Assignee: Klockner-Humboldt-Deutz AGInventors: Horst Weigel, Gerhard Melcher
-
Patent number: 4358311Abstract: A method and apparatus for smelting an ore concentrate or the like wherein the concentrate is first melted in an oxidizing atmosphere and the smelt is aftertreated with reducing gases to recover the metal values. The improvement consists in positioning a plurality of rows of lances in a smelting reactor in the direction of molten metal flow, the spacing between the rows of lances being substantially greater than the spacing between individual lances in each row. The reducing gas is blown with a high kinetic energy through each lance to cause an area of toroidal bath movement to occur where the gases from each lance impinge against the moving smelt. The spacing between the rows of lances is sufficiently large so that a relatively quiescent zone exists between the areas of toroidal bath movement between each of the rows. The molten metal and a relatively metal-free slag are withdrawn separately from the furnace enclosure.Type: GrantFiled: August 4, 1981Date of Patent: November 9, 1982Assignee: Klockner-Humboldt-Deutz AGInventors: Horst Weigel, Gerhard Melcher
