  • Patent number: 8160889
Abstract: A bandwidth extension system extends the bandwidth of an acoustic signal. By shifting a portion of the signal by a frequency value, the system generates an upper bandwidth extension signal. An extended bandwidth acoustic signal may be generated from the acoustic signal, the upper bandwidth extension signal, and/or a lower bandwidth extension signal.

    Filed: January 17, 2008
Date of Patent: April 17, 2012
    Assignee: Nuance Communications, Inc.
Inventors: Bernd Iser, Gerhard Nüssle, Gerhard Uwe Schmidt

  • Publication number: 20060206327
Abstract: A voice-controlled data system is providing that has a storage medium for storing media files, the media files having associated file identification data for allowing the identification of the media files, the file identification data including phonetic data having phonetic information corresponding to the file identification data. The phonetic data is supplied to a speech recognition unit that compares the phonetic data to a speech command input into the speech recognition unit. The data system further includes a file selecting unit that selects one of the media files based on the comparison result.

  • Patent number: 6895117
Abstract: A method for a recognition system, for example for recognizing a location name according to a preset, spelled voice entry, in order to shorten the reaction time for a new start of a system in which data must first be transferred from a reading memory into a working memory via a connection at a low data rate. According to the method, the data are grouped in data blocks, corresponding to successive structural levels, with the data content being arranged in the manner of a branched tree structure, and with the data blocks in the hierarchical sequence of the associated structural branch levels being consecutively transferred from the reading to the working memory. The recognition has already begun, on the basis of the still-incomplete data set, after a plurality of levels is present, and is continued in real time with the transfer of further data blocks. The average processing time can be reduced further through an advantageous structuring and grouping of the data.

  • Patent number: 6839670
Abstract: A speech dialog system wherein a process for automatic control of devices by speech dialog is used applying methods of speech input, speech signal processing and speech recognition, syntatical-grammatical postediting as well as dialog, executive sequencing and interface control, and which is characterized in that syntax and command structures are set during real-time dialog operation; preprocessing, recognition and dialog control are designed for operation in a noise-encumbered environment; no user training is required for recognition of general commands; training of individual users is necessary for recognition of special commands; the input of commands is done in linked form, the number of words used to form a command for speech input being variable; a real-time processing and execution of the speech dialog is established; and the speech input and output is done in the hands-free mode.

  • Publication number: 20040034527
Abstract: A speech recognition system for processing voice inputs from a user to select a list element from a list or group of list elements. Recognition procedures are carried out on the voice input of the user. One recognition procedure separates the voice input of a whole word into at least one sequence of speech subunits to produce a vocabulary of list elements. Another recognition procedure compares the voice input of the whole word with the vocabulary of list elements.
