    Abstract: A cable joint comprising a clamping sleeve adapted to be compressed over a looped cable end section. An opening is provided in the clamping sleeve for the inspection of the cable end within the sleeve. An insert of a material that is harder than the clamping sleeve is positioned in the opening prior to the compression of the sleeve and is retained therein during the compression of the sleeve to control the flow of the sleeve material around the opening.
