  • Patent number: 5529677
Abstract: A planar polarographic sensor for determining the lambda value of gas mixtures, for use with exhaust gases in internal combustion engines, includes a planar ceramic carrier sheet having an outer pumping electrode and an inner pumping electrode respectively arranged on opposite planar sides thereof, and a diffusion barrier. The outer and inner pumping electrodes, and the diffusion barrier are arranged on the planar ceramic carrier sheet so that the measuring gas is fed via the diffusion barrier to the inner pumping electrode. The sensor has front and side edge faces. The diffusion barrier is configured as a diffusion layer at least partially covering the inner pumping electrode and exposed at least at one edge face of the sensor to the measuring gas. A diffusion-free planar region of the sensor is provided with an equalizing layer having the same thickness as the diffusion layer, and the equalizing layer is disposed in the same plane with and adjacent to the diffusion layer.

  • Patent number: 5516410
Abstract: The invention is based on a planar sensor element for determining the oxygen content of gas mixtures, particularly in internal combustion engines such as those found in automobiles. The sensor element comprises a measuring cell and an integrated heat conductor embedded in electric insulation all of which rest on a solid electrolyte substrate. At least one hollow chamber separates one or several parts of the insulation from the solid electrolyte substrate in order to effect an improved decoupling of the sensor's heat conductor from its measuring cell.

  • Patent number: 5417187
Abstract: A method to adjust the angular position of a camshaft, which is related to the arc of a crankshaft rotation, to a setpoint angular position with the help of a final controlling element that is triggered by an actuating signal from a controlling device that becomes operational when a control program is run. The final controlling element is able to be triggered in each case by one of three values of the actuating signal; the re-adjustment rate (v.sub.-- ESTIMATED) of the camshaft is estimated for its level at the beginning of the subsequent program run; from this re-adjustment rate and the known time response (c, v.sub.-- END) of the camshaft re-adjustment, after the switch is made to the actuating signal from the hold value, a special adjustment angle (.alpha..sub.-- ESTIMATED+) is estimated; and the change is already made from the early or late value of the actuating signal to its hold value when the deviation between the adjustment angle (.alpha..sub.

  • Patent number: 5267548
Abstract: In the method for the adapted precontrol and feedback control of the air/fuel mixtures to be supplied to the two fuel-metering devices of an internal combustion engine, which has two separate exhaust-gas channels with a lambda probe and a catalytic converter in each channel, a common value of the precontrol manipulated variable and a common lambda desired value are determined for both fuel-metering devices. On the other hand, values of a control manipulated variable are determined separately for each fuel-metering device and values of precontrol adaptation variables, which are dependent upon the values of the control manipulated value, are determined and are superposed separately one after the other on the common precontrol value. This method makes it possible to manage with a single device for both cylinder banks which are to be operated in a stereo lambda control.

  • Patent number: 5194099
Abstract: A sinter magnet based on Fe-Nd-B with improved coercive field strength and reduced temperature dependency thereof consists of 25 to 50 wt. % Nd, 0.5 to 2 wt. % B, 0 to 5 wt. % Al, 0.5 to 3 wt. % O, remainder Fe and usual impurities and has an oxygen content which is adjusted by the addition of oxygen or of oxygen-containing compounds, especially of an Al and/or Nd oxide, before the dense sintering. It is obtainable by the melting together of the pure components with formation of a pre-alloy, pulverisation of the pre-alloy, alignment of the powder in a magnetic field and pressing to a green formed body, sintering at 1040.degree. to 1100.degree. C. and subsequent annealing at 600.degree. to 700.degree. C., whereby one adds the oxygen as Al or Nd oxide or via the grinding and/or sintering atmosphere.

  • Patent number: 5169512
Abstract: A planar polarographic probe for determining the .lambda. value of gas mixtures, in particular of exhaust gases of internal combustion engines, having at least the following units: a pumping cell (A), a diffusion unit (B) with a diffusion resistance preceding a pumping electrode of the pumping cell (A) and, if necessary, a heating unit (C) is proposed in which the diffusion resistance of the diffusion unit (B) is formed by a preshaped body which becomes porous on sintering and which is inserted into the unsintered probe.Such a polarographic probe enables a sensor to be constructed in a simple manner which is particularly suitable for production, with increased reproducibility of the diffusion resistance.

  • Patent number: 5162999
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a device for adjusting operating parameters of an internal combustion engine. Time-independent programs are executed in a low-priority background program and programs dependent on the crank angle are executed in a high-priority synchroprogram. Time-dependent programs are divided into different groups, specifically into at least one group of time-dependent programs of shortest interval and at least one composite group which contains the group of time-dependent programs of shortest interval. When a predetermined grid interval has elapsed, a particular group of time-dependent programs, that is either a group of time-dependent programs of shortest interval or a composite group, is run through.

  • Patent number: 4760002
Abstract: In connection with a metal oxide electrode in an alkaline electrolyte system, especially for a brownstone electrode, the presence of cobalt as a thin film or as an alloying consitituent at the surface of the positive current drain wire, which is preferably a nickel-plated steel cup or a deep-drawing steel plate, leads to a reduction of the contact resistance between the current drain wire and the MnO.sub.2. To apply the cobalt, the current drain wire is preferably polarized in an aqueous CoSO.sub.4 solution. The cobalt film, which is formed in a thickness of less than 1 micron (depending on the Co ion concentration and the selected current conditions), imparts resistance properties to the transition between the MnO.sub.2 and the nickel-plated current drain wire even after prolonged storage, which can otherwise only be achieved with gold-plated current drain wires.

  • Patent number: 4575579
Abstract: In public videotex (Btx) terminals, different pages are displayed successively on the screen in the off-line mode (e.g., advertisements and user instructions). To be able to update such off-line pages at low cost, a page memory in the terminal is constructed as a random-access memory (46). A central operating facility contains an editing device in which the information and control characters required to display an off-line page are produced. These characters are transmitted to the terminal and written into the random-access memory (46). This may be effected automatically when the supply voltage is turned on.

  • Patent number: 4568551
Abstract: A process for the preparation of dehydrated base products for thickened soups and sauces which disperse readily in hot water and form thick, creamy, lump-free products. The product is prepared by combining a starchy material with an edible fat into a homogeneous mixture. Water is added to the mixture which may also contain milk proteins. The mixture is then subjected to heat treatment, cooled and grated. Optionally the homogeneous mixture is heated under elevated pressure.
