Patent number: 7313601Abstract: The present invention describes an adaptive control system being preferably part of the portal, which provides a sophisticated method for a partial sequential and parallel invocation of portlets depending on the available resources and system utilization. Based on defined time mark for rendering content (maximum invocation time for displaying a portal page or a portal-wide portlets rending time mark), a number of available threads, and estimated invocation time for each portlet the inventive method determines and invokes a first group of portlets (80,90) providing the maximum number of portlets to be invoked sequentially without exceeding defined time mark for rending content, and then all remaining portlets (80,90) are to be invoked parallel to that first group of portlets. The invention guarantees reasonable response times and high scalability and performance. (FIG. 9).Type: GrantFiled: January 23, 2003Date of Patent: December 25, 2007Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Peter Fischer, Stephan Hesmer, Thomas Schaeck, Brad Byer Topol, Dirk Koehler, Gerhard Stark

Patent number: 6131259Abstract: A movable column is adjustable longitudinally and transversely in controlled fashion on a machine bed which defines a longitudinal direction and a transverse direction. A tool spindle is adjustable in controlled fashion on the movable column along a spindle axis normal to both the longitudinal direction and the transverse direction. A clamping axis is defined by a tool support which is rotationally adjustable in controlled fashion about this clamping axis and includes a clamping device through which a material rod can be pushed and in which it can be clamped. A front portion of the material rod, presenting the workpiece to be machined, is disposed within the working range of the tool spindle. Patent number: 5025539Abstract: A drilling and milling machine comprises a travelling pillar (20) having a tool spindle (25) which is movable along its own spindle axis (Z) and along the two further axes (X, Y) of a three-dimensional coordinate system (X, Y, Z), and a workpiece carrier (30) which is stepwise rotatable about a pivot axis (A). The pivot axis (A) extends horizontally and at right-angles to the spindle axis (Z). The workpiece carrier (30) is constructed for clamping a material bar (18), the axis of which coincides with the pivot axis (A) and the end portion of which forms a workpiece (18') to be machined by the workpiece spindle (25). On the travelling pillar (20) a severing unit (26) is arranged which in each operating cycle severs a machined workpiece (18') from the workpiece bar (18). The resulting partition face can then be further machined by the drilling and milling machine.Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 1990Date of Patent: June 25, 1991Assignee: Stama Maschinenfabrik GmbHInventor: Gerhard Stark

Patent number: 4620347Abstract: A boring, milling, thread cutting or analogous machine has a frame for a work supporting table and a first carriage which is reciprocable in the X-direction. The first carriage supports an open-and-shut magazine for a supply of spare tools as well as a second carriage which is movable in the Y-direction. The second carriage supports a headstock which is movable with a vertical tool spindle in the Z-direction. The magazine is opened in automatic response to movement of the second carriage in the Y direction and to a predetermined position in which the tool spindle can be relieved of the tool thereon by being lifted upwardly. An indexing mechanism of the magazine then places a selected tool into the path of downward movement of the spindle so that, when the spindle descends, the freshly selected tool is automatically coupled thereto. The second carriage is thereupon moved in the direction of the Y-axis to enable the magazine to become shut.Type: GrantFiled: May 14, 1984Date of Patent: November 4, 1986Assignee: Gerhard StarkInventors: Gerhard Stark, Klaus Hoffmann

Patent number: 4419797Abstract: A machining center for at least one of a drilling or milling operation. The machining center includes a machine frame at which an outrigger is attached, with a tool spindle, driveable to execute stroke movements and rotary movements, being mounted to the outrigger. The tool spindle is adapted to be moved from an end position, in alignment with a tool carrier present in the tool magazine and connectible to the tool spindle, axially for being coupled to the tool carrier and then further movable axially for machining of workpieces. The tool spindle is rotatably mounted at a slide arranged at the outrigger and guided along a straight guide extending in parallel to an axis of rotation of the tool spindle. The slide serves for axial movement of the tool spindle for executing axial strokes intended for workpiece machining and for an exchange of a tool carrier. The slide has a zone through which the tool spindle extends, which zone may pass through a gap of the tool magazine.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 1980Date of Patent: December 13, 1983Inventors: K. Eugen Sigloch, Gerhard Stark
