  • Publication number: 20040082492
Abstract: The invention relates to biocide-containing active plastics internal elements for the cleaning of gas or air in humidifiers of process gases, gas scrubbers or exhaust air scrubbers in which a gas phase and a liquid phase are in contact with one another, the biocide being selected from the group consisting of 2,3,5,6-tetrachloro-4-(methylsulfonyl)-pyridine, 2,4,4′-trichloro-2′-hydroxy-diphenyl ether, 4,4′-dichloro-2-hydroxyphenyl ether, 2,2′-methylenebis(4-chlorophenol), 4-(2-tert-butyl-5-methylphenoxy)-phenol, 3-(4-chlorophenyl)-1-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)urea and 2,4,6-trichlorophenol. The invention relates also to the use of the above biocides in plastics internal element for the cleaning of gas or air in humidifiers of process gases, gas scrubbers or exhaust air scrubbers.

  • Patent number: 5824221
Abstract: A process for purifying water, which comprises passing water contaminated with organic compounds in countercurrent through a moving bed adsorber packed with an adsorbent medium that is colonized, especially in the lower zone, with one or more microorganisms.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 5, 1993
Date of Patent: October 20, 1998
    Assignee: Ciba Specialty Chemicals Corporation
Inventors: Markus Thuer, Gerhard Stucki, Michael Reisinger
  • Patent number: 5264128
Abstract: A process for purifying water, which comprises passing water contaminated with halogenated compounds through one or more fixed or fluidized bed reactors which are connected in series and packed with an adsorbent material which is inoculated with one or more microorganisms. The process results in almost complete elimination of the halogenated hydrocarbons.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 28, 1990
Date of Patent: November 23, 1993
    Assignee: Ciba-Geigy Corporation
Inventors: Markus Thuer, Gerhard Stucki, Rolf Bentz
  • Patent number: 5180495
Abstract: A process for purifying water, wherein the water, which is polluted by a mixture of halogenated compounds, preferably halogenated hydrocarbons, is passed through at least two reactors (treatment stages) packed with a porous material populated by one or more microorganisms, one of the reactors being operated under anaerobic conditions and being followed by an aerobically operated reactor; in this way, almost complete elimination of the halogenated compounds, preferably halogenated hydrocarbons, is achieved.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 3, 1991
Date of Patent: January 19, 1993
    Assignee: Ciba-Geigy Corporation
Inventors: Markus Thuer, Gerhard Stucki, Roland Boss
