  • Patent number: 4984625
Abstract: An improved demisting screen arrangement utilized in a rotary fluid management device (13) of a two-phase thermal management system (1) employs a multi-layered annular screen (34) held in a casing (52) to define a space (54) on the downstream side of the screen (34). The arrangement provides a lower pressure drop across the screen which results in wet vapor passing through the screen (34) at a lower velocity and in thereby preventing the vapor from passing through only a localized section near the inner diameter of the annular screen (34) in the region of the hub (56). This arrangement effectively increase the volume of the screen (34) through which the wet vapor is now caused to flow and, therefore, increases the amount of liquid phase separated from the vapor phase.

  • Patent number: 4961652
Abstract: A radial-type bearing which includes an outer tube-like member rotatable about a center axis and having an inner cylindrical bearing surface. An inner shaft-like member is disposed within the outer rotatable member. The inner member is stationary or non-rotatable and is generally coaxial with the outer rotatable member. A plurality of bearing pads have operative positions radially between the outer and inner members. The bearing pads are pivotally mounted on the stationary inner member for tilting movement in response to rotation of the outer member. The pads have outer bearing surfaces complementary to the inner bearing surface of the outer rotatable member.

  • Patent number: 4840498
Abstract: A self-aligning bearing assembly, especially adapted for use in space, contains lubrication passages to provide a stiff fluid film to support a rotating member. One or more anti-rotation pins extend between the ball and race members which allow a small articulating motion without full rotation of the ball member and race member relative to one another.
