    Abstract: The invention disclosed herein relates to the comparison of whole genomes to identify short oligonucleotide sequences that are specific to a single organism. In some embodiments of the invention, combinations of species-specific oligonucleotides are used to produce specific amplification products. In some embodiments, isolate-specific oligonucleotides are used to detect and identify target organisms.
