  • Patent number: 4916800
Abstract: A pipe coupling assembly (10, 46, 64) and method of manufacturing the same involves the use of a pipe coupling (12, 50, 66) with an intumescent collar (14, 68) and a metallic band (16, 56, 70) wrapped thereabout at one end thereof. The metallic band has overlapping ends (36, 38) which are held together by elongated fasteners (18, 60) passing through overlapping portions and into the intumescent wrap. The pipe coupling assembly including a tubularly-shaped main body, an intumescent collar, and a metallic band are assembled as a unit in a factory to be later placed in a concrete form to have concrete poured thereabout. A heat receiving edge of the metallic band receives heat from a fire in a space below a barrier in which the pipe coupling assembly is embedded and conducts it to the outer periphery of the intumescent collar.

  • Patent number: 4882886
Abstract: A pipe attachment device (12, 52) for attaching a pipe (16, 54) to a concrete form wall (14) includes an axially extending wall (12, 54) and a floor (24, 58) extending laterally from a first end of the axially extending wall. The floor is affixed to the concrete form and the pipe to be held in place on the form is pressed on the axially extending wall. The pipe is held thereon by the friction of a force fit. After concrete is poured into the form wall and allowed to cure, the pipe attachment device is removed with the concrete form wall while the pipe is allowed to stay embedded in the wall. A separate riser (20) is adhered to the outer surface of a standard pipe (16) to prevent it from sliding out of the concrete once the form is removed. A special pipe coupler (54) can be used with a male pipe attachment device having a built in shoulder (68) and riser (64). Intumescent cuffs (18, 56) can be used with either the standard pipe or the special pipe coupler.

  • Patent number: 4877216
Abstract: Pipe-attachment apparatus (10) for attaching a pipe (22) to a concrete-form wall (16) includes a first attachment device (12,44,56) to be attached to the concrete-form wall and a second-attachment device (14,58) having a radially directed surface for contacting a surface of the pipe and thereby helping to support the pipe. One of the first or second attachment devices includes an axially-extending protrusion (30,70) and the other includes an axially-extending cavity (24,62) for slidably receiving the protrusion. With this arrangement, the second attachment device aids in supporting the pipe from the concrete-form wall during the pouring of concrete, but after the concrete has cured, the first and second attachment devices easily slide away from one another leaving the first attachment device on the concrete form wall and the second attachment device on the pip.

The first and second pipe-mounting portions each has a coupling inner diameter as an inner diameter for snugly fitting on outer surfaces of standard plumbing pipes and a coupling outer diameter as an outer diameter. One of the first and second coupling mating portions has the coupling inner diameter as an inner diameter and has an intermediate diameter as an outer diameter. The intermediate diameter is intermediate the coupling inner and outer diameters. • Patent number: 4850385
Abstract: A fire-stop pipe coupling adaptor (10) comprises a pipe coupling (12) having an intumescent fire stop collar (14) in a metallic band (15) wrapped to form a cylinder (16) thereabout, with the metallic band having outwardly-directed radial tabs (18) at a first cylinder end (19) for attaching the metallic band to a partition (40). The pipe coupling of the adaptor has a male coupling member (46) at a first end thereof for extending into a female end (56) of a cast-in coupling (54) to be attached thereto, thereby allowing an end of the cast-in coupling to be positioned immediately adjacent to the intumescent fire stop collar and the metallic band tabs.

  • Patent number: 4848043
Abstract: An under-floor fire-stop coupling and method of construction involves a pipe coupling assembly (10) in which an elongated tubularly-shaped main body (14) has a rigidly coupled outwardly directed mainbody flange (36) to which a fire-stop metallic band (22) having intumescent material (24) therein is mounted. The metallic band includes tabs (34) at the end adjacent to the main-body flange. The main body defines an anchor indentation (46) in an outer surface above the main-body flange. The pipe coupling assembly is mounted to a floor (40) by preparing a hole (66) through the floor slightly larger than the main body, extending the main body through the hole from below the floor until the main-body flange contacts a bottom surface of the floor, and extending fasteners through the metallic band tab and the mainbody flange into the bottom of the floor.

  • Patent number: 4823527
Abstract: A plumbing concrete form accessory (10) includes a relatively large hollow displacement member (12) having a hole (18) in a wall thereof and defining a sleeve (19) about the hole for snugly fitting the outside surface of a pipe (48). A dissolving type adhesive is used to adhere the sleeve adjacent a first end (50) of the pipe and a second end (52) of the pipe is mounted to a concrete form (58) by means of a slidable flange (54) which is also adhered to the outside surface of the pipe. A spacer cuff (60) is mounted snugly about the outside surface of the pipe adjacent the second end thereof. The thusly mounted pipe supports the hollow displacement member in the concrete form while concrete (22) is poured about the pipe and the displacement member. In a preferred embodiment, a cover (14) is used to cover an open side (16) of the displacement member to allow selective access to the interior of the displacement member for coupling a fixture (36) to the first end of the pipe once the concrete has hardened.

  • Patent number: 4671483
Abstract: A concrete-form conduit holder (10) comprises upright supports (14 and 16) attached to a floor wall (28) of a concrete-form and extending upwardly therefrom. A laterally extending header bar extending between the upright supports forms a substantially horizontal surface on the bottom side thereof to which a plurality of cups are attached with open ends thereof facing downwardly and closed ends thereof facing upwardly against the header bar. To use the concrete-form conduit holder, the upright supports are attached to the floor wall and tubular conduits are extended from outside the form into the form with their ends inserted upwardly into the open ends of said cups where they are held by screws.

  • Patent number: 4669759
Abstract: A fire-stop stack fitting (34) includes a cylindrically-shaped coupling wall (36) having a stop (52) therein for receiving pipes to be coupled from first and second ends. The first end of the cylindrically-shaped coupling wall is affixed to a cavity forming wall (42) defining a cavity which is open in an inwardly radial direction and in a first-end axial direction but which is closed in an outwardly radial direction and in a second-end axial direction. An attachment flange (46) is affixed to the first end of the cavity-forming wall for attaching the fire-stop stack fitting to a concrete form (50). An intumescent material (44) is placed in an intumescent-material cavity (62) and the flange of the fire-stop stack fitting is fastened to a concrete form wall. After concrete (56) has hardened and the form wall (50) is removed, pipes (38, 40) are inserted in opposite ends of the cylindrically-shaped wall (36).

  • Patent number: 4619471
Abstract: A pipe coupling holder (10) for holding a pipe coupling joint (20) to be embedded in concrete (42) includes a cylindrically-shaped barrel member (12) having an inner wall to which the coupling joint (20) is attached at a first end thereof. The holder also includes a flange member (14), which is separate from the barrel member, but which has a hole (28) therethrough of the size for snugly receiving a fixed-shaped outer wall of the barrel member (12) to be selectively slidable along the barrel member and attachable thereto at any selected position. Thus, a second end portion (26) of the barrel member can be cut away to accommodate a raised portion (40) of a concrete form wall and the flange member (14) can be slid along the outer surface of the barrel member to the top of the raised portion.
