  • Patent number: 4897309
Abstract: The surfaces of particulate adsorbents are consolidated by a process in which the adsorbent is impregnated with a cationic aqueous polymer solution and then treated with an anionic aqueous dispersion of a polymer having a softening point of from 60.degree. to 150.degree. C. and the materials are dried together.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 30, 1988
Date of Patent: January 30, 1990
    Assignee: BASF Aktiengesellschaft
    Inventors: Franz Haas, Gerold Schreyer
  • Patent number: 4535004
Abstract: A process for consolidating the surface of a granular adsorbent, wherein thermoplastic crosslinkable bonding fibers are applied from aqueous suspension, the water taken up by the adsorbent is evaporated off and the bonding fibers adhering to the surface of the adsorbent are crosslinked by heating. The adsorbent thus treated has virtually the same adsorption and desorption properties as the untreated adsorbent, but exhibits substantially improved abrasion resistance.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 9, 1983
Date of Patent: August 13, 1985
    Assignee: BASF Aktiengesellschaft
Inventors: Franz Haas, Gerhard Janisch, Gerold Schreyer
  • Patent number: 4534720
Abstract: An apparatus for the preparation of bonding fibers, especially for the production of nonwovens by a wet-lay process, wherein a polymer dispersion, containing an anionic or nonionic dispersant, and an aqueous solution, containing a dissolved cationic precipitant, are combined to cause fiber formation from precipitated polymer particles, which apparatus includes a feed funnel spaced above the bottom of a homogenization vessel with both a nozzle for introducing the polymer dispersion and a metering device for the precipitant, which are so arranged and aimed into the funnel that in co-operation with a stirrer a vortex is produced in a column of liquid in the feed funnel, and fibers are formed and broken up while passing through a turbulence chamber, located at the bottom of the funnel, and a gap into a homogenization chamber.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 20, 1982
Date of Patent: August 13, 1985
    Assignee: BASF Aktiengesellschaft
Inventors: Richard Bung, Karl Gans, Gerold Schreyer, Gerhard Welzel
  • Patent number: 4535005
Abstract: A process for consolidating the surface of a granular adsorbent, wherein a water-containing adsorbent, which has taken up 25-70% by weight of the maximum possible amount of water, is heated to a temperature at which the water taken up evaporates, and is at the same time treated with an aqueous dispersion of a self-crosslinking copolymer, and the adsorbent thus coated is heated to a temperature at which the copolymer crosslinks. The coated adsorbent has virtually the same adsorption and desorption properties as the untreated adsorbent, but in contrast exhibits substantially improved abrasion resistance.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 9, 1983
Date of Patent: August 13, 1985
    Assignee: BASF Aktiengesellschaft
Inventors: Franz Haas, Gerhard Janisch, Gerold Schreyer
  • Patent number: 4485055
Abstract: A process for the repeatable production of shaped particles of various geometries from polymer dispersions, melts or solutions, wherein first particles are expelled by means of a rotating disk and are introduced while still liquid, in a radially outward direction, into a liquid precipitant or fixant film and the particles are thereby coagulated or fixed and also given an additional structure and are transported away from the point of introduction.

Date of Patent: November 27, 1984
    Assignee: BASF Aktiengesellschaft
Inventors: Richard Bung, Karl Gans, Gerold Schreyer, Gerhard Welzel
