  • Publication number: 20240126358
Abstract: An information handling system includes a battery and a charger. The battery provides a battery voltage to a main power rail of the information handling system and is couplable to the main power rail through a switch. The charger has an output coupled to the main power rail and an input coupled to an external power adapter. The power adapter provides a selectable voltage level to the input. The information handling system selects a particular voltage level that is lower than the battery voltage and directs the switch to decouple the battery from the main power rail when the information handling system is in a soft power-off state.

  • Publication number: 20240129973
Abstract: An information handling system includes a first wireless data communication interface powered by a first power rail, a processor powered by a second power rail, and a second wireless data communication interface powered by the second power rail. When the second power rail is powered off, the first power rail is powered on. The first wireless communication interface determines that the information handling system is within a predetermined distance from a wireless dock, and in response, establishes a first wireless data communication link with the wireless dock, and provides an indication to wake the processor and the second wireless data communication interface. In response to the indication, the information handling system powers on the second power rail, wakes the processor, and establishes a second wireless data communication link between the second wireless data communication interface and the wireless dock.

  • Publication number: 20240028093
Abstract: Described are system and methods for maximizing charging power to an information handling system (IHS) from a programmable power supply (PPS). The IHS and the PPS initiate communication with one another. Information is exchanged as to the capabilities of the PPS for providing charging power to battery cells of the IHS, and information as to the battery cells of the HIS. Charging power from the PPS based on the configuration and capability of the battery cells of the IHS, and charging power is kept at a maximum power throughout charging of the battery cells.

  • Patent number: 11797367
Abstract: In some examples, a computing device may include a plurality of components, an embedded controller, and a read-only memory (ROM) to store a basic input output system (BIOS). A display device connected to the computing device may include a display panel and a timing controller. The embedded controller may be configured with instructions to determine that a power-on has been initiated, determine that a particular component of the plurality of components of the computing device has an issue that prevents booting the BIOS, and send a message from the embedded controller to the timing controller. The message may instruct the timing controller to display, on the display panel and before the CPU begins execution, one or more error messages associated with the particular component that has the issue preventing booting the BIOS. In some cases, a logo may be displayed along with the one or more error messages.

  • Publication number: 20230128943
Abstract: Described are computer implemented methods, a system and a power supply amplifier (PSA) that supports compliance testing of the PSA. The power supplies power to a powered device/information handling system. A voltage of synchronous rectifier (SR) gate is measured and compared to a calculated sense voltage at a sense resistor of the PSA. If the sense voltage is zero, received current of the PSA bypasses a first blocking MOSFET and a second blocking MOSFET for over voltage protection. If the sense voltage is not zero, the received current passes through the first blocking MOSFET.

  • Patent number: 11437914
Abstract: As an example, a power supply may provide a particular voltage of multiple voltages based on a power profile provided by a universal serial bus Type C (USB-C) integrated circuit (IC) built-in to a USB-C port of a computing device. A power factor correction (PFC) converter may provide an output voltage that varies according to the power profile. The output voltage of the PFC converter may be used as an input to an inductor-inductor-capacitor (LLC) converter. The LLC converter may produce an output voltage that varies in voltage level proportionally to the PFC converter output voltage. The PFC converter may provide a voltage to the LLC converter that causes the LLC converter to provide an amount of voltage indicated in the power profile sent by the USB-C IC of the computing device.

  • Patent number: 10969873
Abstract: In some examples, a computing device may include a swipeable portion with a material having a textured surface. A primary sensor may receive motion-generated data when a swipe gesture is performed on the swipeable portion and send primary data to an embedded controller (EC). The primary sensor may be mounted between two layers of vibration damping material. The EC may filter the primary data to create filtered data. The EC may determine that the filtered data satisfies one or more criteria to determine that the swipe gesture was performed. In response, the EC may perform one or more associated actions, such as determining and displaying a battery level of a battery of the computing device.
