Patent number: 11944820Abstract: Neurostimulation of a mixed nerve comprising a plurality of nerve fibre types. An implantable electrode array comprising a plurality of electrodes is positioned proximal to the mixed nerve. An electrical stimulus is delivered from at least one nominal stimulus electrode of the implantable electrode array, in accordance with a set of stimulus parameters. A recording of the electrophysiological response evoked by the electrical stimulus is obtained from at least one nominal recording electrode of the implantable electrode array. The recording is analysed by assessing one or more selected characteristics of the recording, and from the observed selected characteristics a level of recruitment of one or more fibre types recruited by the electrical stimulus is identified. The stimulus parameters are refined in a manner to effect selective recruitment of one or more fibre types relative to other fibre types of the mixed nerve.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 2019Date of Patent: April 2, 2024Assignee: Saluda Medical Pty LtdInventors: John Louis Parker, Gerrit Eduard Gmel

Publication number: 20230139790Abstract: A neurostimulation system comprises at least one stimulation electrode configured to deliver an electrical stimulus to neural tissue and at least one measurement electrode configured to record a neural recording of a response of the neural tissue to the stimulus. A processor is configured to assess the neural recording to produce a measure of postsynaptic activation.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 25, 2021Publication date: May 4, 2023Applicant: Saluda Medical Pty LtdInventor: Gerrit Eduard Gmel

Publication number: 20220151535Abstract: Neural activity in the brain arising from a stimulus is monitored. A stimulus is applied to a target structure of the brain and a neural measurement is obtained from at least one electrode implanted in contact with the target structure. The neural measurement is configured to capture a measure of any late response arising in the target structure, typically being a neural response arising after conclusion of an ECAP, such as in the period 1.5-10 ms after stimulus onset. The late response(s) can be a useful biomarker such as of therapeutic ranges of deep brain stimulation, disease progression, medication efficacy, and intra-operative changes.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 15, 2021Publication date: May 19, 2022Applicant: Closed Loop Medical Pty LtdInventors: John Louis Parker, Gerrit Eduard Gmel

Patent number: 11110270Abstract: Fitting a brain neurostimulator electrode array comprises positioning at least a first electrode in a desired target structure in a first cerebral hemisphere, and positioning at least a second electrode in a corresponding target structure in a contralateral cerebral hemisphere. Electrical stimuli are applied from the first electrode to the desired target structure. Neural responses observed at the second electrode in response to the electrical stimuli are recorded. The fitting of at least one of the first electrode and second electrode is assessed by reference to the recorded neural responses.Type: GrantFiled: May 31, 2016Date of Patent: September 7, 2021Assignee: Closed Loop Medical Pty LtdInventors: John Louis Parker, Gerrit Eduard Gmel

Patent number: 10849525Abstract: Monitoring brain neural activity comprises repeatedly applying electrical stimuli to evoke neural responses in the brain. Neural responses evoked by the stimuli are recorded. The recorded neural responses are assessed for changed characteristics over time, to monitor a time-varying effect on the recorded neural responses of local field potentials arising from a source other than the electrical stimuli.Type: GrantFiled: May 31, 2016Date of Patent: December 1, 2020Assignee: Saluda Medical Pty LtdInventors: John Louis Parker, Gerrit Eduard Gmel
