  • Patent number: 11904984
Abstract: A mooring post unit is provided with a cable holding device on top of the mooring post. The cable holding device has a first pulley wheel, a second pulley wheel and a cable clamp, arranged to guide a mooring cable from a ship over the first pulley wheel to the clamp, back and forth via the second pulley wheel. A hydraulic force limiter is coupled between the second pulley wheel and the mooring post. The hydraulic force is expandable and compressible in the direction of a force exerted by the axis of the pulley wheel. The hydraulic force limiter temporarily gives way when a peak in the force exceeds a threshold. The clamp comprises a pair of drums, around which the mooring cable runs back and forth. By synchronously rotating the drums, the mooring cable may be hauled in or paid out under stress.

  • Publication number: 20210002840
Abstract: A fender for fending a ship from a mooring wall comprises a hydraulic cylinder and piston assembly arranged so that compression of the fender is translated into a force to move the piston in the cylinder. Valves couple the hydraulic cylinder to reservoir that is at least partially filled with gas. An overpressure valve allows hydraulic liquid to flow from the cylinder to the reservoir when the fender compression force exceeds a threshold, allowing the fender to be compressed. When the force drops away, a return valve allows hydraulic liquid to return to the cylinder, causing the piston to move to expand fender, following movement of the ship away from the fender. In this way oscillating motion is reduced. A plurality of such fenders may be combined with mooring cable holding devices with a similar mechanism that pays out cable when the movement of the ship from the mooring wall cause the force on the mooring cable to grow. Energy generated from such forces may be used to reduce movement of the ship.

  • Patent number: 10829185
Abstract: A hydraulic mooring cable holding device provides a hydraulic cylinder-piston combination (20) for controlling the force on a mooring cable between one end of a ship and a mooring point. An overpressure protection part (26) with hydraulic liquid passing from the hydraulic cylinder (20) to a reservoir (260) when the pressure in the cylinder exceeds a threshold value, and returns the hydraulic liquid when the pressure has dropped. An auxiliary reservoir (24) with a steeper pressure response than the main reservoir (260) is connected in parallel with the main reservoir. The auxiliary reservoir may be connected to and/or disconnected from the cylinder under control of a sensor or a further mooring device at the other end of the ship, to reduce movement of the ship e.g. in swell. Furthermore, pressure from the auxiliary reservoir may be used to drive an electric generator.
