The can body is filled with a product through said first end using a compacting ram such that the peelable lid is pressed against the support surface (3) by the product and said pattern is impressed into the peelable lid (2), and a closure applied to said first end.

During manufacture, it is essential that sealing compound is prevented from ingress onto the centre of the closure as such ingress could lead to possible contamination of the food.
