  • Patent number: 4355118
Abstract: The instant invention is directed to a process for the production of an inorganic-organic foam composition comprising reacting an organic, nonionic hydrophilic polyisocyanate with an aqueous alkali metal silicate in the presence of a catalyst and a blowing agent, the improvement wherein said aqueous alkali metal silicate contains from 0.1 to 15% by weight, based on the weight of the aqueous alkali metal silicate, of a compound of the formula: ##STR1## wherein A is selected from the group consisting of N, P and S, wherein R, R', R" and R'" may be the same or different and are selected from the group consisting of allyl, vinyl, C.sub.1 to C.sub.17 alkyl or mono- or polyhydroxy substituted alkyl, C.sub.6 to C.sub.10 aryl or mono- or polyhydroxy substituted aryl, C.sub.7 to C.sub.22 aralkyl or mono- or polyhydroxy substituted aralkyl, and C.sub.7 to C.sub.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 30, 1981
Date of Patent: October 19, 1982
    Assignee: Mobay Chemical Corporation
Inventors: Miltiadis I. Iliopulos, Gert F. Baumann
  • Patent number: 4353995
Abstract: The instant invention is directed to a novel catalyst system for the production of polyurethane resin, and the method of use of such catalyst system. The catalyst systems of the instant invention broadly comprise(a) a tertiary amine,(b) a tin compound capable of catalyzing the reaction between an isocyanate group and an active hydrogen atom, and(c) a compound of the formula:(R--COO--.sub.2 Mewherein Me represents calcium or barium, andR represents a hydrocarbon group. It has been found that the component (c) tends to catalyze size reactions which occur during foaming between isocyanate groups and the initial reaction products of isocyanates and active hydrogen containing compounds.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 26, 1979
Date of Patent: October 12, 1982
    Assignee: Mobay Chemical Corporation

  • Patent number: 4190417
Abstract: The present invention is concerned with a process for dry printing or dyeing of sheets. A foam structure is printed or dyed and placed in contact with the sheet to be treated. The composite is subjected to sufficient heat and pressure to destroy the foam structure without significantly damaging the sheet. The result is the sheet surface now appears to carry the printing or dyeing. Among the suitable carrier foams are polyurethane foams. The process finds particular utility in coloring difficult to dye substrates such as cotton, fiber glass or asbestos fabrics with water insoluble dyes.
