  • Publication number: 20070283032
Abstract: A method and apparatus for transmitting/receiving a status report in a mobile communication system where Automatic Repeat reQuest (ARQ) and Hybrid Automatic Repeat reQuest (HARQ) operate together. An ARQ receiving (Rx) entity determines whether transmission of the status report is permitted, if a predetermined status report generation condition is satisfied. If the transmission of the status report is permitted, the ARQ Rx entity generates a status report depending on a reception status of ARQ packets received up to the time the transmission of the status report is permitted, and transmits the generated status report to an ARQ transmitting (Tx) entity through an allocated transmission resource. The ARQ Tx entity determines an initial reception time of an HARQ packet including the status report as a generation time of the status report, and performs retransmission according to the status report.

  • Publication number: 20070202879
Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided for reducing a signaling overhead in routing area update performed by a mobile station in a mobile communication system. The method includes grouping cells of the mobile communication system into predetermined cell groups by the network entity, wherein each of the predetermined cell groups is a minimum unit for routing area update; determining cell group identifiers of the cell groups by the network entity; and determining metric information for determining a shape of the routing area by the network entity.

  • Publication number: 20070060139
Abstract: A method and apparatus for enabling efficient use of radio resources by reducing an RLC PDU size in a mobile communication system supporting voice service over a packet network are provided. An RLC layer constructs an RLC PDU without inserting information indicating the start and end of an SDU or indicating the use or non-use of padding. The RLC layer sets an LI in a header to indicate inclusion of an intermediate SDU segment in the data field of the RLC PDU. Therefore, the resulting decrease of overhead arising from packet transmission facilitates the efficient use of limited radio resources.

  • Publication number: 20070049344
Abstract: System information is transmitted over an air interface (32) between a node of a telecommunications network and a user equipment unit (30). The system information includes system information blocks which use extended system information block types, e.g., system information block type values which are outside a range of nominal system information block type values. The use of the extended system information block types is facilitated by embodiments of system information extension utility functions at the network node, by method of operating the network nodes, and by corresponding embodiments of system information processing functions provided at the user equipment unit (30).

  • Publication number: 20070025324
Abstract: A method for controlling a rate of a voice service in a mobile communication system supporting the voice service via a packet network. The method includes the steps of receiving a control message at a terminal from a radio network controller (RNC); if the control message indicates control of a downlink rate, determining a downlink rate according to the control message; setting a Change Mode Request (CMR) field of an uplink Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) packet according to the downlink rate, and transmitting the uplink VoIP packet from the terminal to the RNC; if the received control message indicates control of an uplink rate, determining an uplink rate according to the control message; and generating an uplink VoIP packet including uplink voice data generated according to the determined uplink rate and frame type (FT) information indicating the determined uplink rate, and transmitting the uplink VoIP packet from the terminal to the RNC.

  • Publication number: 20060165045
Abstract: A method and apparatus for transmitting control information relating to an uplink packet data service from a user equipment (UE) to a Node B in a mobile communication system are provided. MAC-es protocol data units (PDUS) including data of an upper layer and a control service data unit (SDU) including control information of a MAC layer are multiplexed and contained in a MAC-e protocol data unit (PDU) transmitted in an uplink from the UE during one transmission period. In a header of the MAC-e PDU, a header part corresponding the control SDU contains a data description indicator (DDI) field set as a specific value representing that the control information is transmitted, and a header part corresponding to the MAC-es PDU contains a DDI field which represents a MAC-e flow and a logical channel relating to uplink packet data included in the second PDU, and a data size. Node B detects the control information from the control SDU based on the DDI field set as the specific value.

  • Publication number: 20060030342
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for efficiently transmitting and receiving control information messages necessary for a Multimedia Broadcast/Multicast Service (MBMS) provided in a mobile communication system. The method includes setting information elements for the control information messages to reduce unnecessary signaling overhead during the transmission of the control information. The method prevents a user equipment (UE) from performing duplicate reception on the control information, thereby reducing power consumption of a battery.

  • Publication number: 20050281232
Abstract: A method and apparatus for reordering data sent from a user equipment (UE). The UE assigns transmission sequence numbers (TSNs) to medium access control (MAC)-e protocol data units (PDUs) through an enhanced uplink dedicated channel (E-DCH). A Node B assigns, to received PDUs, time stamps (TSs) indicating time points when the PDUs are received. Using the TSNs and the TSs, a radio network controller (RNC) solves a problem of PDU disorder due to hybrid automatic retransmission request (HARQ) operations and transfer delay between the Node B and the RNC, and reorders the PDUs.
