  • Publication number: 20080095116
Abstract: Improving communication efficiency in handover re-establishing an ARQ entity in a mobile communication system is disclosed. The method includes transmitting first Packet Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP) Packet Data Units (PDUs) correctly received from the source cell, together with a special indication requiring reordering of the first PDCP PDUs, from a Radio Link Control (RLC) receiving buffer to a PDCP receiving entity when a handover command message from a source cell to a target cell is received; buffering the first PDCP PDUs in a PDCP PDU reordering buffer by the PDCP receiving entity in response to the special indication; and when a second PDCP PDU is received from the target cell through a new RLC receiving entity for the target cell, outputting third PDCP PDUs up to a PDCP PDU before a first missing PDCP PDU having a sequence number higher than that of the second PDCP PDU from the PDCP reordering buffer. In the method, a PDCP entity performs reordering, thereby improving efficiency of communication.

  • Publication number: 20080069053
Abstract: A method and apparatus for minimizing data forwarding between Evolved Node Bs (ENBs) during a handover. A User Equipment (UE) sends a status report to an ENB of a source cell immediately before the handover occurs. In this manner, a target cell avoids retransmission of the RLC PDUs, which were successfully transmitted but have not yet been ACKnowledged (ACKed) by the UE, thereby minimizing the amount of data being forwarded from the ENB of the source cell to an ENB of the target cell.

  • Publication number: 20070201436
Abstract: A call setup method and apparatus for minimizing call setup delay by a UE in a mobile telecommunications system are provided. The method includes the steps of: if call setup for a packet call service is requested, determining by the UE if the requested service is a predetermined service sensitive to call setup delay; if the requested packet call service is the predetermined service sensitive to the call setup delay, establishing control information representing that the packet call service is sensitive to the call setup delay; and transmitting a request message requesting the call setup to a network, the request message including the control information. In the method, a network causes a UE using a packet call service sensitive to call setup delay to maintain a connected state, so that restart delay of the packet call service can be minimized.

  • Publication number: 20070184834
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling measuring the frequency of a new cell within a forbidden registration area when a User Equipment (UE) enters into the new cell in a mobile communication system are provided. If the UE recognizes the new registration area as forbidden, the UE does not measure the frequency of the current cell for a predetermined reference time, and searches for a suitable cell for a normal service by measuring other frequencies. If no suitable cell in the other frequencies is found, the UE removes a measuring limitation and searches for an acceptable cell for a limited service by measuring frequencies including frequency of the current cell.

  • Publication number: 20070184838
Abstract: A method of changing the serving cell in a cellular communications network is provided. A radio communications link is established between a serving network node of a serving cell and a mobile terminal. The mobile terminal sends radio measurement reports for cells other than the serving cell. Once a predetermined condition has been fulfilled, a pre-configuration is performed to establish a radio communications link for one or more cells being a candidate for a new serving cell.

  • Publication number: 20070153733
Abstract: A method and apparatus for initiating communications on a shared channel in a mobile communication system are provided. A user equipment transmits an uplink signal for requesting communications on the shared channel to a Node B, and waits for a delay duration without monitoring a downlink after transmitting the uplink signal. When the delay duration has elapsed, the user equipment monitors the downlink during a valid period and determines whether a downlink signal responding to the uplink signal is received in a transmission time interval within the valid period. When the downlink signal is received in the valid period, the user equipment transmits and receives data on the shared channel.

  • Publication number: 20070109964
Abstract: A method and apparatus for transmitting a happy bit indicating whether a UE needs additional resources for uplink data transmission in a mobile communication system supporting an uplink packet data service are provided. The UE sets a happy bit for a current process based on a different criterion, depending on the current process is an active process activated for scheduled transmission or an inactive process allowed for non-scheduled transmission. A Node B interprets happy bits received for a plurality of processes and interprets them according to the types of the processes. Then the Node B determines an allowed maximum data rate and the number of active processes for the UE and schedules uplink data transmission for the UE according to the determination result.

  • Publication number: 20070109986
Abstract: A cell setting apparatus is provided for scheduling a packet data service in a mobile communication system supporting the packet data service. A signaling receiver receives information on a cell to be added to an active set and information on a change in a best cell, from a terminal. A signaling transmitter transmits configuration information for the packet data service and the packet data to a source base station or a target base station. A memory stores information on the active set. A data path decision unit allows the terminal to update the active set and to set configuration information newly set for the packet data service, transmits the information on the cell to be added to the active set to the target base station in response to the information on the cell to be added to the active set, and allows the target base station to perform the packet data service scheduling for the terminal in response to the information on the change in the best cell.

  • Publication number: 20070060138
Abstract: An apparatus and method for controlling a data rate by a user equipment (UE) that receives a scheduling command for uplink data transmission from a non-serving Node B in a mobile communication system that transmits packet data over an uplink are provided. A scheduling command receiver receives a down command for decreasing an allowable data rate of the UE from radio link sets (RLSs) of the non-serving Node Bs. A down command reception counter counts the number of down commands received from each of the RLSs for a predetermined hysteresis period. A down command execution counter counts the number of down commands executed for the hysteresis period. A down command execution decision unit compares the number of received down commands with the number of executed down commands, and determines whether to execute the down command according to the comparison result.

  • Publication number: 20060258386
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for enabling a UE to perform accurate and efficient cell reselection in a cellular mobile communications system. If reselection to the same cell is repeated, the UE releases itself from a high-speed UE state or excludes the number of reselections to the same cell from the number of cell changes counted for a duration set for deciding as to the high-speed UE state, according to a ping-pong duration threshold and a ping-pong occurrence number threshold. The UE uses a non-scaled down cell reselection time limit in a non-high-speed UE state, and a scaled-down cell reselection time limit in the high-speed UE state. Thus, the UE reselects to a non-serving cell having the highest ranking continuously for the cell reselection time limit.
