  • Publication number: 20230308850
Abstract: A method, in a distributed unit (DU) of a base station comprising a central unit (CU) and one or more DUs, each DU serving one or more cells, comprises sending, to the CU, information indicative of capacity in the DU for sending segmented messages and/or indicative of a capability of the DU to send segmented messages. In some embodiments, the information is indicative of capacity in the DU for sending segmented Public Warning System (PWS) messages and/or indicative of a capability of the DU to send segmented PWS messages. In some embodiments, the method further comprises receiving, from the CU, a segmented PWS message in system information blocks (SIBs), each SIB carrying a segment of the PWS message, and broadcasting the SIBs.

  • Publication number: 20230112994
Abstract: A simulated Public Warning System (PWS) message is defined for efficient PWS testing. The simulated PWS message mimics a conventional PWS message, but indicates that it is not to be propagated across an air interface to UEs. However, the simulated PWS message is otherwise propagated through the network as a PWS message. This allows for testing the generation and propagation of PWS messages, without wasting valuable air interface and battery resources. In some embodiments, network nodes may initiate testing by requesting a simulated PWS message. An Access and Mobility management Function (AMF) node in a wireless communication network collects and reports network status to a PWS entity. The AMF node ascertains the functionality of network functions, nodes, and interfaces to which it is connected, independently from receiving reports of such functionality, and an indication of any detected fault or failure is sent to the PWS entity.

  • Patent number: 10097333
Abstract: A method performed by a traffic analyzing element in a communication network in which a radio device communicates over a packet switched (PS) radio access bearer (RAB) with a radio access network (RAN) using compression in uplink (UL). The method comprises measuring at least one property of radio traffic between the radio device and the RAN. The method also comprises predicting a fraction of UL data on the PS RAB which will be compressible, based on the measuring. The method also comprises outputting information about the predicted fraction to a memory size estimating element in the communication network. Related are a method performed by a memory size estimating element, as well as to a memory size estimating element and a traffic analyzing element.

  • Patent number: 9820301
Abstract: Embodiments herein relate to a method in a mobile terminal for requesting access to a wireless communication system. The mobile terminal receives broadcasted system information that indicates a first available resource of a contention based channel. The mobile terminal derives a second available resource of the contention based channel based on the first available resource of the contention based channel. The mobile terminal further transmits an access request preamble mapped to the second available resource to access the wireless communication system.

  • Patent number: 9609531
Abstract: Embodiments herein relate to a method in a mobile terminal for requesting access to a wireless communication system. The mobile terminal receives broadcasted system information directly indicating first access request preambles for a first contention based channel, and indirectly indicating second access request preambles for a second contention based channel based on the directly indicated first access request preambles. The mobile terminal further derives the second access request preambles from the first access request preambles. Additionally, the mobile terminal requests access using the second access request preambles or the first access request preambles to access the wireless communication system.

  • Patent number: 9585059
Abstract: A method of configuring a header compression or decompression algorithm in a packet network. The method comprises the steps of analyzing or receiving packet information associated with packet traffic, and determining a representative header length to consider as the header length for a plurality of packets. The method further comprises using the representative packet header length to configure one or more compression or decompression algorithms used in the network.
