  • Patent number: 7179885
Abstract: Silver halide emulsions for photographic uses contain a nucleation peptiser having at least one region A of up to 100 amino acids. Region A can either consist of (i) at least two silver-binding amino acids and up to 98 amino acids between the two silver-binding amino acids, or can consist of (ii) a stretch of from 9 to 100 amino acids having a polarity corresponding to an average transfer free energy ?F equal to or higher than +1.0 kcal/mol. The nucleation peptizer also has at least one region B (separated from region A) having at least 50 amino acids and having a polarity corresponding to an average transfer free energy equal to or lower than ?1.0 kcal/mol and not containing methionine residues. The emulsion may also contain a growth peptiser having similar characteristics to the nucleation peptiser, but having a longer A region and a greater overall length.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 21, 2001
Date of Patent: February 20, 2007
    Assignee: Fuji Photo Film B.V.
Inventors: Jan Bastiaan Bouwstra, Gertjan Bögels, Yuzo Toda
  • Publication number: 20060068340
Abstract: The invention relates to tabular silver halide emulsions that are useful in the field of photography and particularly to a process for preparing the tabular silver halide emulsions. The process of the invention relates to tabular grain formation process which is carried out in the presence of a compound which has a preferred adsorption to {111} crystal faces as compared to {100} crystal faces. The parameter for the preferred adsorption follows from a modified Kubelka-Munk method.
    Type: Application
    Filed: December 19, 2003
    Publication date: March 30, 2006
Inventors: Gertjan Bogels, Jan Bastiaan Boustra, Yuzo Toda
  • Publication number: 20040048208
Abstract: The invention pertains to silver halide emulsions for photographic uses. The emulsions contain a nucleation peptiser, said nucleation peptiser being a polypeptide comprising: at least one region A comprising up to 100 amino acids, either consisting of (i) at least two silver-binding amino acids and up to 98 amino acids between said two silver-binding amino acids, or consisting of (ii) a stretch of from 9 to 100 amino acids having a polarity corresponding to an average transfer free energy &dgr;F equal to or higher than +1.0 kcal/mol, and at least one region B (separated from region A) comprising at least 50 amino acids and having a polarity corresponding to an average transfer free energy equal to or lower than −1.0 kcal/mol and not containing methionine residues. The emulsion may also contain a growth peptiser having similar characteristics as the nucleation peptiser, but having a longer A region and a greater overall length.

  • Patent number: 6630292
Abstract: The invention is directed to a method for producing a silver halide photographic emulsion comprising the step of reacting a water-soluble silver salt and at least one water-soluble halide salt containing chloride or bromide in aqueous solution in the presence of an organic Grain Growth Modifier (GGM) compound, containing a halide X, which halide is not released in the form of an ion, to form light-sensitive silver halide grains having a silver halide content of a least 50 mole %, said grain growth modifier compound being water-soluble with a solubility>4 mmole per liter, and being selected from the group of compounds with an aliphatic or cyclo-aliphatic backbone R to which is attached one or more halide groups and at least one polar group.
