  • Patent number: 8425863
Abstract: A micro fluidic device includes a valve/pump-unit with reduced dead volume having a substrate. The lower surface of the substrate includes two micro channels spaced apart by a valve area of the substrate that separates the two micro channels. A flexible membrane is arranged on the lower surface of the substrate facing an actuating element located in a through going cut-out of a cover element. Movement of the actuating element towards and away from the valve area of the substrate causes a pump and/or valve action of the flexible membrane area, respectively, to cause or stop a directed fluid flow between the two micro channels through a channel formed between the valve area of the substrate and the flexible membrane.

  • Publication number: 20100104474
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a micro fluidic device (1) comprising at least one valve/pump-unit (2) with reduced dead volume, wherein the micro fluid device comprises: —a substrate (3), wherein on the lower surface of said substrate (3) at least two micro channels (4) are arranged to direct a fluid sample (5) flow on the substrate (3), whereby said two micro channels (4) are not end-to-end connected and spaced apart by a valve area (6) of said substrate (3); —at least one flexible membrane (7), wherein the flexible membrane (7) is arranged on the lower surface of said substrate (3); —an actuating element (8) with an upper surface (9) adjacent arranged to the flexible membrane (7); —at least one cover element (10) arranged on the lower surface of the flexible membrane (7), wherein the cover element (10) comprises at least one through going cut-out (11) for receiving an actuating element (8), so that movement of said actuating element (8) causes a pump and/or valve action of the adjacent arranged flexib

  • Patent number: 6856585
Abstract: A method and device for recording information signals on a partly recorded writable record carrier (11), e.g. an optical disc. An information signal represents at least one information unit. The record carrier has a recording track which comprises preformed track position information indicative of locations for recording the information units. From the information signal a modulated signal is generated, and the recording track is scanned for recording the modulated signal. If recording is after and adjacent an existing recorded unit, linking information is read from an end boundary area of the existing recorded unit and used for logically generating the modulated signal. If recording is before and adjacent to an existing unit, linking information is read from a begin boundary area of the existing unit and thereafter used for logically generating the modulated signal.

  • Patent number: 6813224
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for reading and/or writing data on a disk (1) storing data in a continuous spiral form (2). The data is simultaneously read from or written to N tracks (4-8, 12-20) by N spots, N being an integer larger than or equal to 2. The reading and/or writing is performed by alternating between reading/writing and actuator jumps. In order to increase the efficiency of such multi track disk drives a next jump decision is calculated dynamically on the basis of a real-time analysis determining a next position of a unit (23) for reading/writing data relative to the disk (1).

  • Publication number: 20030049013
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for encoding data bits of a data bitstream into channel bits of a channel bitstream to be recorded on a rewritable optical medium, wherein the digital sum value (DSV) of said channel bitstream is controlled. In order to provide a method and an apparatus for encoding as well as an optical recording medium which do not require any change in the electronics or software of a reproducing apparatus it is proposed according to the invention that the digital sum value of said channel bitstream is varied if a new part of channel bitstream is started to be recorded on the recording medium or if an old part of a channel bitstream is started to be rewritten at an identical location on the recording medium. Thus the method according to the invention is also applicable to any existent rewritable optical medium.
