  • Patent number: 10610308
Abstract: An apparatus includes a proximal coil, a distal coil, a navigation sensor, and a wire. The proximal coil is formed by a wire wrapped in a helical configuration. The distal coil is formed by a wire wrapped in a helical configuration. At least one wrap at a proximal portion of the distal coil is interlocked with at least one wrap at a distal portion of the proximal coil, such that interlocking portions of the proximal and distal coils form a double helix configuration. The navigation sensor is located within the distal coil. The navigation sensor is configured to generate signals in response to movement within an electromagnetic field. The wire extends through the proximal coil. The wire is in electrical communication with the navigation sensor such that the wire is configured to communicate signals from the navigation sensor.

  • Patent number: 10603472
Abstract: A medical guidewire includes a flexible spiral coil, a fiber, and a strengthening element. The coil is configured to guide a medical device into a patient body. The fiber extends along at least part of the coil, is coupled to the at least part of the coil at one or more first predefined locations and is configured to mechanically strengthen the at least part of the coil. The strengthening element is coupled to one or more second predefined locations along a distal section of the coil, and is configured to mechanically strengthen the distal section.

  • Publication number: 20180264237
Abstract: An apparatus includes a proximal coil, a distal potion, a navigation sensor, and a communication wire. The proximal coil is formed by a wire wrapped in a helical configuration. The proximal coil is flexible. The distal portion is positioned at a distal end of the proximal coil. The distal portion is non-extensible. The distal portion may be formed by a rigid tube. The distal portion may alternatively be formed by a soldered region of the proximal coil. The navigation sensor is located within the distal portion. The navigation sensor is configured to generate signals in response to movement within an electromagnetic field. The communication wire is in electrical communication with the navigation sensor such that the communication wire is configured to communicate signals from the navigation sensor.
