  • Patent number: 6942991
Abstract: This invention relates to vectors, bacterial strains, and methods for the cloning and expression of a polypeptide having larvicidal activity. In particular, the invention relates to vectors, bacterial strains and methods for the cloning and expression of the N-terminal region of a polypeptide toxic against the larvae of Lepidoptera of the Noctuidae family, preferably against S. littoralis.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 1, 2001
Date of Patent: September 13, 2005
Assignees: Institut Pasteur, Institute National de la Recherche Agronomic
Inventors: Vincent Sanchis, Didier Lereclus, Ghislaine Menou, Marguerite-Marie Lecadet, Daniel Martouret, Raymond Dedonder
  • Publication number: 20050091714
Abstract: This invention provides a method for obtaining a nucleotide sequence that codes for the active part of a polypeptide specifically active for larvae of S. littoralis. The method comprises hybridizing at least one nucleotide probe to DNA from a strain of B. thuringiensis active against S. littoralis, wherein at least one nucleotide probe is derived from the 5? part of a restriction fragment of a gene for ? endotoxin of B. thuringiensis strain aizawa 7-29, isolating the DNA from the strain of B. thuringiensis active against S. littoralis that hybridized to the probe, cloning the isolated DNA into a vector, and purifying the vector to thereby obtain the nucleotide sequence that codes for the active part of a polypeptide specifically active for larvae of S. littoralis, wherein the specifically active polypeptide has (1) a specificity index of less than 1.0 and (2) a higher specific toxic activity towards S. littoralis than the native crystal proteins of the strains aizawai 7-29 or berliner 1715.

  • Patent number: 6110734
Abstract: A nucleotide sequence coding for at least one part of the terminal N region of a polypeptide which exercises a specific toxic effect on Lepidoptera of the Noctuidae family, preferably on S.littoralis, is characterized by its capacity for hybridization with a gene capable of expressing a polypeptide exercising a toxic effect on S.littoralis larvae.
