  • Patent number: 9421089
Abstract: Disclosed are accommodating intraocular lenses for implantation in an eye having an optical axis. In certain embodiments, an intraocular lens includes an anterior optic, a posterior optic, and a support structure configured to move the optics relative to each other along an optical axis between an accommodated state and an unaccommodated state. In certain embodiments, at least a portion of the support structure can be modified in situ to alter reaction forces between the support structure and at least one structure of the eye. In certain embodiments, a refractive property of one of the anterior or posterior optics can be modified in situ while leaving the refractive properties of the remaining one of the anterior or posterior optics substantially unaffected. Additional embodiments and methods are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 8062361
Abstract: An accommodating intraocular lens implantable in an eye. The lens comprises an anterior portion having an anterior biasing element and an anterior optic having refractive power. The lens further comprises a posterior portion having a posterior biasing element and a posterior optic having refractive power. The anterior optic and the posterior optic are relatively moveable in response to action of the ciliary muscle to change the separation between the optics and the refractive power of the lens. The lens has an aberration-inducing force characteristic of about 70 mg to about 115 mg to allow aberration-inducing relative movement of the optics when the lens is in the eye, thereby adding optical aberration to the lens which increases depth of focus of the lens. In one variation, the lens has an aberration-inducing force characteristic of 70 mg to 115 mg. Related methods are also disclosed.

The first portion can comprise a base and at least one elongate guide associated with the base. The first portion can be in contact with and not movable relative to a first optic of the lens during at least a portion of the preparation of the lens. The a second portion can comprise an actuator having an engagement surface in contact with a second optic of the lens and at least one protrusion extending away from the engagement surface. The protrusion can be configured to extend into engagement with the elongate guide. The first and second portions can be movable relative to each other as permitted by the guide(s) and protrusion(s) to move the optics so that the lens takes on a more compact condition for implantation.

  • Patent number: 7452362
Abstract: There are disclosed methods for preparing an intraocular lens for implantation in an eye. The methods can comprise (1) providing an intraocular lens having first and second viewing elements that overlap when viewed along an optical axis; and (2) preparing the lens for implantation by relatively moving the viewing elements such that the first viewing element moves at least substantially completely across said second viewing element to significantly reduce or eliminate the overlap. Additional methods and intraocular lens embodiments are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 7276077
Abstract: A device to provide body fluid flow control in the form of a valve to be located within a duct or passageway. The device is controlled through pressure above a preselected threshold. Bulk resilience about a passageway in a valve body provides the mechanism for controlled flow. One-way valve operation may be provided through a flap or through a pressure differential on the valve body depending upon the direction of flow. A frame structure positioned within a resilient seal includes longitudinally elongated elements which may be of spring material, malleable material or heat recoverable material so as to accomplish an initial insertion state and an expanded anchoring state. A valve support transitions between the resilient seal portion and the valve body to insure that the states do not change the threshold opening pressure. Insertion devices may be employed to position and actuate a change of state of the frame in the body duct or passageway.

  • Publication number: 20070060942
Abstract: A catheter for use in an emboli containment system includes a flexible elongate member having self-expanding sealing means mounted on its distal extremeity. This self-expanding sealing means can take any suitable form, such as a braided structure formed of a suitable shape memory material such as a nickel titanium alloy. In order to prevent abrasion of a vessel, it is desirable to cover the braided structure with a covering of a suitable material such as a polymer which extends over the braided structure and which moves with the braided structure as it expands and contracts.
