Patent number: 8555367Abstract: A system and method for securely streaming media. The system includes a gateway server that receives requests for access to a secured data resource from an end users. The request include an authorization ticket and a referring website. The gateway server validates the authorization ticket using a secret key shared with the referring website, and validates the referring website by verifying that referring website is on a white-list for the secured data resource. The gateway server selects a data server to service the request, and formats a data server access request containing the data server location and data server request parameter data and transmits the data server access request to the end users. When end users transmit the data server access requests to a data server, the data server validates the request and transmits it to the end user.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 2008Date of Patent: October 8, 2013Assignee: Yahoo! Patent number: 7640320Abstract: Method and system for uploading, managing and delivering digital content, including streaming media. The system according to one embodiment allows receives digital content from the client (102), assigns a stream identifier (ID) to the content and stores the content. The client is given a playlist uniform resource locator (URL) for publishing on its web site (610), the URL including the stream ID. Activation of the URL by an end user (104) causes the stream to be served to the end user, without the client receiving or providing an indication of the specifics of where the content was stored. An embodiment of the present provides a system and method that permit clients to actively manage their content, including defining logical folders and subfolders containing item(s) of the content and defining logical stream groups, containing items of the content.Type: GrantFiled: January 18, 2002Date of Patent: December 29, 2009Assignee: Yahoo! Inc.Inventors: Justin Paul Madison, Anthony Joseph Rodiger, Syed Noman Kazmi, William David Turner, Steven Alexander Roberts, Ghousuddin Syed, Vinay Polavarapu, Bhargavaram Bulleyya Gade

Publication number: 20090165017Abstract: A system and method for the delivery of a portion of a library of data to an end user. The system includes a plurality of data servers and at least one gateway server operatively connected to the end user. When the gateway server receives request from the end user for delivery of at least a portion of the library of data, the gateway server selects one of the plurality of data servers using a stateless addressing method and transmits instructions to the end user which enable the end user to issue a second request to the selected data servers for delivery the data to the end user. When the selected data server receives the second request, the server transmits the requested data to the end user.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 24, 2007Publication date: June 25, 2009Applicant: Yahoo! Publication number: 20080147974Abstract: The present disclosure describes caching systems and methods for managing the storage of data file in different caching levels. Each caching level represents a faster, but more expensive, storage device or location, with the lowest level, or order, of a cache being the fastest, but also most expensive, and the highest being the slowest cache. Even slower than the various system cache levels are external file storage systems referred to as filers, such as database servers. The caching algorithm used by the system is designed so that more frequently requested items migrate to the faster cache areas. The algorithm immediately brings any requested file that is not in the cache into the fastest possible cache area if space is available or else into the next fastest if space is available there. If all cache areas are full, then the file is cached to the highest ‘order’ number cache area.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 18, 2006Publication date: June 19, 2008Applicant: Yahoo! Patent number: 7373415Abstract: A system for monitoring digital content, including streaming media having one or more client test machines configured to receive and test digital content; one or more streaming servers configured to read content and provide the digital content to the client test machines; and one or more application servers configured to provide a test data file, having a URL to an item of the digital content, to the client test machines. The client test machines store the test results and transmit them to an application server for analysis. The application server may aggregate the information and sort the information via various categories of test results to pinpoint the location of potential points of failure along the path providing the digital content.Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 2004Date of Patent: May 13, 2008Assignee: Yahoo!
