  • Patent number: 7363011
Abstract: A method and a correspondingly operative radio receiver (10) (in either user equipment or a base transceiver station of a cellular telecommunication system) by which the radio receiver (10), in receiving signals transmitted over a radio channel, estimates the impulse response of the radio channel (so as to account for changing conditions of the radio channel) based on a received training sequence (Y) included in the received signal and corresponding to a transmitted training sequence (X), the method including a symbol averaging process (101) by which in effect, by using a calculated correlation sequence (Yc?), two sets of correlations are performed (i.e. a so-called double correlation) without actually performing two sets of correlations, and so improving the estimate of the channel impulse response to the same extent as would result from performing two sets of correlations but with fewer processor operations.

  • Patent number: 7200172
Abstract: A method of operation of a receiver of a mobile station or a base station of a radio access network and corresponding equipment, the method for especial use in providing interference cancellation according to a single antenna interference cancellation (SAIC) algorithm. The method includes a step (22) in which a channel estimator (12) estimates channel impulse response components for use by a SAIC equalizer (14); in estimating the channel impulse response components, the channel estimator (12) minimizes a special cost function (Jch(h)) with respect to the components of the channel impulse response h. In some embodiments, the method uses an iterative least mean squares procedure to minimize the cost function (Jch(h)).

  • Patent number: 6944434
Abstract: A method of operation of a filter (12) of a receiver (10) of a mobile station or a base station of a radio access network and corresponding equipment, the method for use in suppressing co-channel interference and based on separating the in-phase (I) and quadrature phase (Q) components of the received signal and then performing whitening on a symbol-by-symbol basis, i.e. the whitening operation is done within one symbol.

  • Publication number: 20050036575
Abstract: Disclosed is a RF receiver that includes baseband circuitry for performing Minimum Mean-Square Error (MMSE) optimization for substantially simultaneously suppressing inter-symbol interference (ISI) and co-channel interference (CCI) on a signal stream that comprises real and imaginary signal components. In a preferred embodiment the receiver includes a single receive antenna, and operates as a single/multi antenna interference cancellation (SAIC) receiver. The baseband circuitry operates to determine a set of In-Phase and Quadrature Phase (I-Q) MMSE vector weights that are used to perform the ISI suppression and the CCI suppression. A method for operating the receiver is also disclosed.
